Wrecked Shinka........Very bad day

It happened Friday afternoon.
I was heading North, within sight of the redlight for the street I live on.
THe street is 4 lanes both directions. I was in the far right lane and it was totally open for at least a mile. The other 3 lanes were backing up with traffic and eventually came to a stop.
I was doing 45-50 and had a real bad feeling when I saw the other lanes coming to a stop.
I started slowing down, and then "It happened".
This guy heading south was trying to make a left turn and had weaved his way through the lanes that were stopped. Instead of checking to see if the lane I was in was clear, he just shot acroos the intersection hoping to make it across.

Luckily I was already in the process of slowing down and when I saw him ('93 Buick) I stood on the brakes as hard as I could.
I think I went from 40 to 15 in about 20 feet. (Awesome brakes!!!)
If I had had one more foot I would have missed him........

Luckily it looks like just the front cover is going to have to be replaced. No metal or anyting in the engine compartment was damaged.

I was thinking about trying to get a MS front cover instead of the stock one.
My question is, where do I look into getting one?

Also, any other "Accident recover advice" would be greatly appreciated (I start therapy tomorrow!!)

I haven't heard of anyone offering the MS kit in black-cherry yet, but you can always get the replica and have it painted to match.

Be sure to have it checked out thoroughly. I thought only my bumper needed to be replaced and it turned out that a front rail, intake and other minor damage needed to be repaired/replaced as well.

Therapy/advice? It's tough but you'll make it through. I haven't seen another Shinka with a kit so you may be the first!!

You can buy the Real MS front primered, and have it painted to match. But for that paint, it might be pretty tough to get exact. Or wait till they have a Shinka MS front.

That's a typical accident. It occurs very often. Lucky you weren't on a motorcycle.

Look for that same situation in the future.

Glad to hear that damage was light.

Shinka-Rick, sorry to hear about your accident. Luckily it sounds like you can use it to your advantage. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but any auto body shop should be able to match the paint using Mazda's paint codes found on the door?

On a side note make sure that his insurance foots the bill for your repairs. Try going to the most expensive auto body shop in town for your estimate. Then have his insurance company cut you a check and procede to pick up an MS bumper. Good luck.

Yes they can.. 28W is the color and you can find it in the new PPG , Sherman Williams, or Sikkens paint books under Mazda 2005.

I do not have all the books in PDF format here but I know the Sherman Williams number is : SW67622 (I don't usually paint Sherman williams paints so I don't knwo much abotu them...)

Anyways, Sorry to hear about the wreck, but I have to agree with everyone we are happy you where not hurt...

Peace and God Bless

Bummer. I would think you should be able to get one, I got a spoiler for mine that matches perfectly.

Anyway if you do have someone paint it use PPG paint and keep my wife employed.

I just had an accident too! My less than 3 week old White 05 8 MT just got hit yesterday in the rear by a lady in a Mercury Sable that was pushed into my 8 by a car that didn't bother to break for the red light. I was hit square bumper to bumper in the rear and have a perfect outline of her front license plate bolt and a crack in the white bumper. Anyone know what kind of damage might be hidden under the bumper? Insurance will cover the repairs but it's still being sorted out. I was really snapped forward in my seat belt and a CT scan showed a mild concussion. The high seats really cushioned my head when it came back the other way or it may have been worse. Whole experience pissed me off though -- my 8 was a "virgin" for 19 days but now she's living in the ugly, real world.

Bummer! Reminds me of when I was driving my girlfriend's beater Accord in college, in the rain. I was driving along and the car in front of me, one lane over, hit the brakes and stopped. I couldn't see anything in front of him but I slowed down. Suddenly, a guy in a wheelchair, crossing the street, pulled out in front of me, from behind the other car. I locked up the brakes and slid to a stop just about a foot away from the guy.

My bad. I should have guessed seomthing like that would happen. Scared the shyte out of me, and I could have killed the guy.

Differential traffic speeds, between lanes, are major risk factors for accidents. Nowaways, whenever I see one lane slowing way down or stopping, my spider sense starts tingling, and I slow down and start trying to figure out what's up.

Anyway, best of luck to you!

Thanks for all of the kind words.
I had my first round with the other driver's insurance yesterday.
They wrote up the estimate as "repair" front cover.
I told them there was no way I would settle for it being repaired.
They told me that once the body shop did a full investigation it may get replaced.
I sure hope no one else has to go through this hassle.

And you were correct it was US 19.
To make it worse I was less than 1 mile from my house!!

Sorry

Shinka-Rick, that is a truly horrible tale as I'm so obsessive over my 2 1/2 week owned Shinka that it's bordering on an issue Anyway, in life I'm employed as an insurance claims manager. So if I may be of any assistance let me know.

Thanks Chuck. I know what you mean. My wife said that if she catches me in the garage again looking at the Shinka the way I use to look at her, there would be trouble!!
I won't go into all the details but it was a battle to get things lined up to have my car repaired right.
The good news is that it will be going into the shop as soon as the parts arrive.
I decided to stick with the stock cover. I think my wife would have left me if I told her i was going to pay additional money for a MS or custom cover.

As far as pics go; I just can't bring myself to take one that shows the damage.
I'll certainly post some after the repair is done.

Again, thanks for the therapy.

I got rear-ended in January by someone going 10-15 mph on impact. My wife just finished PT for her neck. My bumper was cracked, with an imprint of the other driver's licence plate. The only damage not visible was to a steel brace behind the bumper. Total was $1000.
