Wow, my car sounds amazing.

Yeah, I dropped by my friends shop to paint my calipers and decided to gut my stock cat. Basically we took the insides out, cleaned it out with some high powered air, and replugged the O2 sensor (not that it matters anymore hah). With the cat gutted, the car sounds AMAZING! Stock exhaust and everything, I've also noticed a slight increase in performance. All in all, i'm really satisfied with what we did :]

I'll have a video and pictures of the progress tomorrow. Next step is looking for a Racing Beat exhaust...

You will more than likely get a check-engine light once the engine computer figures out the cat isn't doing anything to the exhaust. There's a sensor before and after the converter. I'm not sure if that will put it in limp mode or not. I think there's an o2 'fooler' you can get to work around the issue.

Simon.

No way, it's basically like drywall... it's broken in peices and in the garbage, I was going to take pics but I didn't have my camera with me and we had all 4 tires off. I'm getting a high flow cat in a couple of weeks so i'm not too worried about the CEL. The car sounds amazing :]

well, if every one of us thought, "oh, one pan full of motor oil down the storm drain won't hurt or pollute the oceans," then cumulatively it WOULD be a lot of pollution. i understand his excitement, but what's wrong with being responsible as well?

Gutted cat most of the time actually makes performance worse.

Well in this case, I feel more power to the wheels. That's what some of the machanics told me before I started doing it - never the less, it turned out awesome.

With the stock setup, a gutted cat will give slightly better top end , but not much. Because the 8 focus its power on the upper rpm band, you may get more than most would expect.

How does it sound? Does it sound buzzy? Or does it have a semi exotic note to it?

How much hp did you gain by gutting your cat?

Don't know to be honost, if I could dyno it I would. It really feels a little faster after I hit around 4k rpms... it picks up nice.

the japanese are to the chinese what the germans are to the jews. that said, non-asians generally lump all asians into one group and don't know or care to know the difference between them. that's why that slide is ironic.
