Would you get this?

Need opinions on this chrome rear bumper insert from RX8 Strakes, $29. Yes or no? Just thinking maybe it'd be a nice match for the RB screens in the front ??

Thanks.

^ Alright! I might get them anyways since they are cheap and just see if I like them or not.

that it? from the price on that page its $70. kinda steep for what you could do with a silver sharpie.

imo, it looks nice.

The chrome version is $70. The $30 aluminum version is at the bottom of the page.

Personally, I like the factory version which ges well with the color of my 8.

There's a few people on here who've painted the existing "defuser". I'd post the thread but it's' pretty self explainatory. Paint + way of applying paint to cross hatch = painted rear defuser.

I've been thinking about doing it in matching paint color.

Ditto mysql101's "chicken wire" assessment. Workmanlike, not a harmonious visual mod. I think it would tend to pull the focus away from my rotary accent.

Also another cleaning/detailing issue.

Pass.

Hey - I did paint the rear "diffuser" (black plastic) to a silver color, i like the way it looks, although it does change the look of the rear in a number of ways. The focus of the back shifts downward, which you may or may not like. Look ta a lot of pictures beforehand....

if i bought it, i'd paint it black

uh, but i do have a question about it. isnt it all plastic there? so does it just install over the plastic? as in = worthless? or do you take the plastic out so the rx8 actually has a rear diffuser?

Bling doesn't always have a function. Chances are, if it's got a shiny surface, it's more for "looks" than performance or engineering.

Certain rodents and birds will collect shiny metal bits, beads, pieces of colored glass, etc., and keep them in a pile or midden. Some humans demonstrate an analogous behavior.

Just look at the profusion of riced-out little blah cars with chromed everything...at least the ones that aren't mostly covered with spray-can primer and half-attached body-kits.

J. C. Whitney has made a business out of mass-marketed, chrome-plated turds for decades.

No no no!
You can do the same.
Has been posted before

This what I did:
Went to home depot, no go
went to lowes ..
bought rain gutter filter, aluminum
1.made a template using cardboard

2. cut the gutter filter wire..a little bigger than the template

3. Pushed it in but after second thought i used some very small self threading screws to hold it in

4. I cut 2 pieces ,one for each side the accent.

make sure you cut the from the opposite sides ie the wire has a different view if cut from the top compared to the view if cut from the bottom..
Total cost was less than 6/7 bucks.

Has 6 long ( 3 foot?) pieces that can be cut into 4 small pieces each. So you will have 5 1/2 pieces left over
Guess what those are good for?

Yep, front. Have not installed the front ones yet, too cold here in Texas to do that HAHAHAHA
I will remove the front bumper ( as slow as I am iwill take me a few hours) and do a few other mods. So while the front bumper is off, I will install that wire.
I might even double the front ones, ie put two layers, 2 pieces of wire so it will be a bit more sturdy/strong just in case a big rock hits.
I took some pics with my digi cam but they did not come out too good. Focus is off on my cam. Need to fine the card reader to post pics

Note how dark the back end looks of my copper red shinka. I figured this mod would bring out some color. Yes, I guess I could have turned on the parking lights.
