window tinting

I've got 7000 miles on my NEW '05...I've had it 6 months, through the winter and never did the heat yet. and decided to get the windows tinted like I did on my '87 RX 7...It lets the A/C labor less and looks pretty good on Velocity Red I think...30% is what they recommended, you can still see through so it's street legal. It also helps hide anything in the car when you're not in it. I think I'm going to like it better this summer..One piece rear window....This is all computerized and looks great..On my '87 I did it myself....what a job that was....Anybody else do the tint thing , let me know your results.

im dying to get the tints on my car. its the last visual mod ive been itching to do before i take a break and start saving up for that good ol' MS body kit.

anyone know a decent and affordable shop in the Sacramento area? this place near my work, Sundance Car Audio, quoted me $210 for the 3 rears, and 2 UV coated fronts (keeps my pasty complexion in check during those hot summer traffic days). Sounds reasonable to me, but i'll take a better deal as long its quality work.

i have 5% all around and 35% on the windshield....i love it the way it is although i seriously miscalcuated how small the widows are on the 8, so with the already bad visuals caused by the b and c pillars, the dark tint makes night driving more difficult.

35% all around. I was torn on going darker on the back...and 9 out of 10 days I'm happy with the 35%....but there is that 1 out of 10 days I wish it was darker!

what type did u use?

just curious to compare, but what type of tint did you guys use on your 8's? I have 28% back, and 38% front, hybrid type metallic + dye = best heat protection during summer.

we both went with a hybrid made by Rayban. it was the only metallic one the guy had and i went with 35% on the sides, 20% on the back while j67345 went with 35% all around.

i took the plunge! 5% in back, 50% up front. Ill have better pictures up soon, but here's a cam phone shot.

having it that dark in back takes some getting used to, but the way she looks from the outside is more than worth it!

I roll 15% front and 5% backs. My rear window is BLACK, you can't see through it. Tint is a must when it gets over 120 degrees in Phoenix.

There are no federal laws that I know of, so it varies state by state. Then again, here in RI, it's illegal to tint ANY window but it is a law that doesn't get enforced much.

We have law that tell that tint is forbidden, but another law tells that checking your window by policeman is outlaw if you have a card of technical permission...So when we buy car first of all we do a technical permission and after make car tinted.

SORRY if I missed it but what is the stock tint on the 8? My friend just got 35% on his honda and it doesn't look all that dark compared to my car without it.

there is no stock tint, it's a dealer add-on so it varies by region and dealer. Here in Arizona, most dealers do a minimum of 35% tint all around, some do darker. When I lived in PA most dealers didn't do tint

most cars that come with a dealer tint have been around 35% in my experience.

its also the legal limit for tint in maryland.

coastie: there is no way your car is tinted 35%. my moms minivan is 35% and it is waaaay darker. my sunglasses (polarized, therefore it has a 50% tint) are darker. thats basically just colorizing your windows. to me, thats probably an 80% tint.

NO add on tint on mine but it is noticeably darker than many other cars that obviously have none. There must be a tint to the windows without the add on film.
