will there be a 2006 8

any bets that there will be no 2006 rx-8 since the 04 are not selling?
maybe we should take a poll.
my guesss is it's the end of the line.

ZoomZoomH 01-04-2005 04:42 PM

uh, the 8 is selling just fine

army_rx8 01-04-2005 04:44 PM

well last time i checked they are selling the 05 models pretty well:p

i also doubt it'll be the end of the line since they put a lot of r & D into this car i think they would like to get a bigger return canceling now would negate that wish (also mazda sold more rx-8's in 2004 then they had initaly projected.)

ZoomZoomH 01-04-2005 04:48 PM

i'm *hoping* for a 2nd gen RX-8 in... 2008?

army_rx8 01-04-2005 04:50 PM

that's would be sweet. i can only dream what it would look like. Haven't seen any hints of mazda trying uot and new body designs though....or anythign at all drasticly new for the 8. but i'm no treally sure teh turn around time for design to production in the car industry

XUrotaryrocket 01-04-2005 04:56 PM

you are seriously misinformed if you think the RX-8 is not selling. Go do some homework.

G8rboy 01-04-2005 05:03 PM

This guy posts a lot of troll-like comments like that. Mazda made over 100,000 RX8's in the first production year- that's a lot for a specialty sports car. It took Mazda over a decade to sell 500,000 Miata's, which is the best selling sports car of all time... I would say the RX8 is doing just fine, so put down the crack pipe.

rx8wannahave 01-04-2005 05:09 PM

so put down the crack pipe
LOL, that would make sense...LOL

As far as I "hear" the RX8 is selling very well...where did you get your info? Crack is a bad thing....real bad thing...LOL, just messing but I (like the rest of the people) don't get where you got your info from.

DrRockin99 01-04-2005 05:17 PM

I know of a Ford dealership that still has 2 2003 F150 Trucks on there lot , and most dealerships still have '04's on the lots right now

Peter Sawko 01-04-2005 05:37 PM

MSRP vs. Sell Price

Edmunds suggests that 2005 RX8's are selling at $1500 bellow MSRP.

I know it's winter but that is a good discount and must indicate that the cars aren't in such strong demand. :)

Wait, who "EVER" pays MSRP? That's just foolish...crazy, lazy car shopping. Considering that most dealers wanted over MSRP...selling for $1500 under is not bad at all nor indicates a slow selling car.

When I was looking for a 2004 starting in December 2004 I could only find a handful in the entire state of FL, so I think they are selling just fine. But again...I want REAL numbers and I have not seen them yet.

XUrotaryrocket 01-04-2005 06:38 PM

There are alot of "foolish" car shoppers on here who didn't shop. They pre-ordered and paid full price for the first RX-8's in the country. I am one of them and I have beaten 50,112 miles into my car in 17 months.

Mazda is one of the few car companies actually beating sales expectations and $1500 is not a desperate discount. Go check out you local Ford and Chevy dealers and look at the rebates THOSE jackholes are giving........... they can't give those POS's away.

Beg to differ. Just ran the pricing from Edmunds on a 2005 base package and GT pakage 6 speed in Denver where you're located. The estimated price of each is approximately $500, not $1500 below MSRP. (You may have been looking at a 2004 model.)

I found a couple of months ago, however, that the Edmunds price was about $800 over the lowest quote I received. Remember, these are estimates.

Further, judging whether a car is doing well in sales based on a first year introduction is a tricky business. Dealers cannot know how well a particular model will sell in their own locale. Most would rather have a few cars left over at the end of the year (for a hot model) than to have under-ordered and have no cars to sell before the model year ends. I'd expect dealers to have a better idea about their prospective sales of 2005 models than the 2004 and will order accordingly. In the meantime, there is still time to make a very good deal on a 2004, at least here in Seattle.

P.S. If you're really looking for a "deal" try pricing a Ford Excursion or Lincoln Navigator. Those are going for over $7000 under MSRP. :)

Omicron 01-04-2005 07:05 PM

A lot of people paid MSRP when the RX-8 first came out. Many had preordered because they had been waiting for the "next RX-7" ever since Mazda dropped it. Anyone who pays MSRP these days is either a poor negotiator or foolish... but back when the car first came out, it was perfectly acceptable.

And no, I didn't pay MSRP... thanks to the S-Plan. :D

Genom 01-04-2005 07:12 PM

Just ignore this thread people. The monthly Mazda sales are posted on the site and they have sold beyond the expected numbers since the car came out. Sandia is just looking to start something.

Elara 01-04-2005 07:13 PM

Sandia, please don't troll. I'm not sure where the heck you're getting your information, but the 8 is selling pretty well. Not as well as projected for the past 6 months, but then, if you pay any attention to automotive news recently NOTHING is selling as well as expected. And no one pays MSRP unless they're buying something that just came out or they're just stupid.

And since Mazda Japan is planning on a Hydrogen/Gasoline hybrid 8 for 2006, I think that gives a pretty good indication they aren't going anywhere. Here's a link that might help you out a bit so you don't have to make things up when you post.

and now the plant has had a fire and they are having trouble getting steel. so allocations to many dealers will be cut drastically down. most are probably going to get way fewer than they hoped. there wont be many 2005s on the lot by the end of the year. that might help boost early 2006 sales (demand being higher than what they can order) as the factory gets back up to speed.

hey don't forget international sales...the 8 is a HUGE seller around the world where they are more apt to appreciate a well built car and not salivate like pavlov's dog when an American V-8 comes along!
