Why I didn't get an 8
I really wanted a 4-seat car with a rotary engine. After looking at the RX-8 I eventually settled on an RX-4 instead. Top ten reasons:
10. No worries about depreciation.
9. I already know the motor was good for at least 180,000 miles.
8. Guaranteed never to need a new cat.
7. No matter what, I won't need a new PCM.
6. Even fewer of them on the road!
5. No complaints about useless 5th or 6th gear.
4. Never worry whether my repairs will be covered under warranty.
3. Even better commercials (Yeah, I know thats an RX-3, so sue me )
2. Tires are cheaper.
And the number one reason to get an RX-4 instead of an RX-8...
Better gas mileage!

My RX-4 had a very radical porting job on it. Put out about 325HP. It also had a Holley 850 Double Pumper. Did 13.9 in the 1/4 mile and the fastest I saw on the speedo was 145mph at about 6500 rpm. It would redline when the Holley couldn't deliver any more fuel for it's needs. About 10,000 rpm.
Do not scoff at the Ported 13B.

Rust situation is tolerable. it's not rusted through anywhere, which is what's most important. Almost none in the wheel wells and the doors and bumpers are both savable. I suspect it's been in Washington state its whole life. The previous owner had it for 20 years... long enough that the state took four days to look up the title for transfer. We get plenty of rain but very little snow (and thus very little SALT) and not a ton of salt blowing in off the ocean either... so rust isn't a huge problem around here.

Mechanically it's pretty good, I basically just did a tune up and brake bleed and it runs great. Carb needs a good cleaning, and it has a broken oil metering line but new oil lines should get here tomorrow. Engine probably has 20K left in it, it's starting to smoke... which would put the rebuild right at 200K, which is about right.

too young to even know what that car is.... i had to google it and research it. cool looking if you like the old car look. i would never even think of getting it. but in the other hand if its mint condition im sure costs more than the rx8 by now.

I am also very familiar with the 13b. That is one of 2 engines I have ever built myself. ( the other being a VW motor )
It was a joke!!!!!

I had the RX-3 in 72, butt ugly brown with white vinyl interior, only one on the lot, and 4 doors, but it was a blast to drive. It had the 10B engine I think. Couldn't afford the 4 then but I bet I could now. Have fun with the 4, but I'll keep my 8.
