Why everyone should do this to their rx-8 thread
|
...so that you too can look goofy AND get pulled over by the authorities.
|
I've seen that on a silver before. Its only good on some cars IMO.
|
take some night shots...
|
i'll take some night shots in a bit, but no light emits from it at all
|
fail.
|
Nobody that doesn't own a 8 would notice.
That chip is more noticeable. |
Only if the rx8 is black.
|
i'm gonna do this with the orange corners i have laying around.
just for fun. maybe i'll like it. |
Oh, I think the 8 is so busy looking, that small changes aren't worth the trouble.
Hell, a clean car looks the best. |
And get hit at night, and lose your case,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, opps.
|
that's a good $75 fix it ticket in many states
|
i have vinyl on my amber corners. they're not as black as that but it definatly looks alot better.
|
I think it looks ok on the yellow cars only. It's nice, just not the best idea in the world for legal reasons..like sombody said-you get hit at night in the front, its your fault.. boo

While I agree with everyone here that it's a pretty risky and dangerous thing to do for saftey/legal reasons, I'll admit that I really like the way it looks. Compliments the rims very nicely and strengthens the color scheme of your car.
Looks good... ...but maybe not a good idea... |
as long as orange reflects when you hit it with a light, its legal. i have mine tinted pretty dark. mebbe 20%? but it readily reflects orange when a light hits it.
but it looks waaaaay better than stock or clears. especially with tinted windows. |
I think if its a BB, it'll look great, but.........on an SS........not so much
|
So you are saying that when you turn on the signal it shows amber?
I like it because it matches the black wheels. Looks sharp. But if you get in an accident you can be held 100% accountable due to the corner marker. I try not to attract attention. I hate tickets. Don't give them a reason to pull you over. |
yeah, its just like tinting your front or rear lights. the light still shows through. but the random light from the atmosphere wont be enough for it to reflect orange unless you are at the absolute correct angle for the sunlight to reflect it. but if you take any sort of directed light, even a flashlight, it glows orange. headlights definitely make it reflect orange.
and this is without the light even being on. i also just have the vinyl overlay. which is really easy to apply on the corners since they are so flat. no wrinkles. |
why would we want to have the paint off our front bumpers chipped?
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...UBBX/turok.jpg haha |
it might not be a chip, he probably would have touched that up. it could be a wet leaf.
you're car looks nice, but you should try it deedub. it ties side lights in with the rims and the cf hood. and if you dont like it.. you peel it off and you are out what.. like $10. |
You blacked-out a set of clears? It looks like the outside surface was painted.
The contour of the amber lens would be better for blacking-out, IMO. Mimics the fender contour- a better route if you're going to turn a functioning light into a mere graphic. My 2 cents. |

he covered it in vinyl. you can tell on the 2nd pic. top right corner.
|
i like it, looks great with the yellow
|
what it looks like normally
http://graphicdesignlabs.com/rx8/side3_tinted.jpg low angled afternoon sun reflecting light pretty much to the camera http://graphicdesignlabs.com/rx8/cornertint2.jpg and with the light on. in broad daylight. http://graphicdesignlabs.com/rx8/cornertint.jpg as you can see. its visibly lighted during the daytime. no problem seeing it at night. if you want razz, i can post night pics too. |

Here's my vinyl'd stockers. I like tke look on a dark car; makes them disappear, unless reflected by a light at night, or illuminated.
|
i think it'll look good on just about any 8 since it goes hand in hand with our fake fender vents. if it's dark enough, of course.
|
I'll have to pass on this mod.
|
dont knock it, till you try it.
it will match your black rims. clears i can see.. it matches the other lights of the car. and if your car is not tinted. the windows too. but stock? where else do you have orange on your car? its a color element that stands alone by itself. out of place. |
The orange matches my interior...
...and my calipers.... |
Yep, looks good on yellow. I still like the clear corners on my BB because it sort of matches the silver lip on the wheels and other chrome/metal parts on the wing, etc.
|
not on a yellow 8
|
Hey Turok - you should invest in some eylids. With your black hood, black lights, black vents (btw, paint ur strakes black or get rid of them. Silver + yellow = yuk), black eyelids would really bring the look together.
It would look like two hands coming out of the front of your hood trying to pull itself forward; maybe give it a little more "MUST...GO...FAST..." look when it's sitting still... ...just my opinion... |

How so? Some cars don't even had side reflectors/indicators there, unless a cop has some type of knowledge about the car I doubt they'd even notice it
So, even with a mild tint (such as in the picture below) The amber reflector no longer works or if it does, it is pretty minimal: http://graphicdesignlabs.com/rx8/cornertint.jpg Almost every cop knows that in his or her state, if a clearly visible side reflector is required. And without any doubts if they want to pull you over (even if you were not speeding) you just gave them just cause. Add in if you are under 30, and have the racer blacked out lights, now you are a cop magnet with the least little infraction. Better check your states vehicle code. For example every car in California, AZ and Nevada (and I would bet the other 47.5 states) requires that same side reflector. <editAnd name one car from the factory that does not have side reflectors or front side running lights that is sold retail in the USA. Why do you think that the RX-8 comes with a light with a reflector in the USA while everywhere else in the world, you have a white/clear no reflector side marker light end edit |

I dont get how its 'illegal' considering some cars dont even have corner bulbs.
Better check the DOT rules first, because there are not any. |
Most econo or older model vehicles don't have them...

For example here is a standard vehicle code for the lights: At least one amber clearance lamp on each side mounted on a forward-facing portion of the vehicle and visible from the front and at least one red clearance lamp at each side mounted on a rearward-facing portion of the vehicle and visible from the rear. e) Clearance lamps shall be visible from all distances between 500 feet and 50 feet to the front or rear of the vehicle, and side-marker lamps shall be visible from all distances between 500 feet and 50 feet to the side of the vehicle. and reflectors: 24608. (a) Cars, Motortrucks, trailers, semitrailers, and buses manufactured on or after January 1, 1968, shall be equipped with an amber reflector on each side at the front and a red reflector on each side at the rear. Any vehicle may be so equipped. (b) Motortrucks, trailers, semitrailers, housecars, and buses 80 or more inches in width and 30 or more feet in length manufactured on or after January 1, 1968, shall be equipped with an amber reflector mounted on each side at the approximate midpoint of the vehicle. Any such vehicle manufactured prior to January 1, 1968, may be so equipped. (c) Required reflectors on the sides of vehicles shall be mounted not lower than 15 inches nor higher than 60 inches. Additional reflectors of a type meeting requirements established by the department may be mounted at any height. (d) Reflectors required or permitted in subdivisions (a) and (b) shall be so maintained as to be plainly visible at night from all distances within 600 feet to 100 feet from the vehicle when directly in front of lawful upper headlamp beams. (e) Area reflectorizing material may be used in lieu of the reflectors required or permitted in subdivisions (a) and (b), provided each installation is of sufficient size to meet the photometric requirement for such reflectors. Amended Ch. 723, Stats. 1979. Effective January 1, 1980. Check your states vehicle code... I think you will find simular laws there. |
Black out the headlights and only drive it during the day.
lol, freaken nuts to play with fire, just to get a little better looks on a car. |
Get in a accident, and get someone hurt or killed,,,,,,,, they get sued for all you have,,,,,, just to look a little cooler,,,,,,,,,dumb.

we do think alike =) man that's going to look bad. |
its definitely visible from 500 feet at night if its lit, or a light is hitting it. i'll post a night pic if you want.
and of course its visible from 500 during good conditions during the day. |

I am just saying that in most states it is illegal. Now your's is better than the thread originators... but it still isn't legal based off the pictures you posted. |
The title of this thread fails.
