That was before their latest models of Mustangs. Didn't they undergo a few changes a year or 2 ago? And then this model year they have the 5.0 which just gives that extra umph in the straights. I honestly don't think the 8 would keep up with the mustang if they were to do that test again. Maybe I'm wrong.

And thats truly the biggest problem, while others increase, we stay.

Sad that two guys last night lost a race against me, one was driving a corvette the other was driving a AMG C63. Fast cars shitty drivers. i know both cars would of eaten me alive, but they dont have skill. freaken corvette guy was burning his clutch BAHAHA.

Well I wont lie- the reason Im not as big of a fan of my 8 as I should be is because of the hp/mpg ratio could DEF be better, but that's mainly cus mine is only an 05 and its an auto. Mines been getting 130/17 and my brothers celica is getting 132/28 (which annoys me cus wer compettive :) ). I think it probably wouldnt be the case if it was say an 06 man tho.
Turning is really good tho, but where I live there's hardly any : /

One thing is for sure tho, the car's looks are def 10/10!

most of us were well-aware of the 8's power deficiencies at time of purchase. but, that didn't sway us from buying it. :)

that said, the 8 is easy to pick on because of the reasons i gave already- ie fuel hungry & power deficiency...

hopefully mazda will give us something new in the next 2 years

doubtful...the demise of the RX-8 is inevitable
but who knows...miracles happen

IF straight HP was all that mattered there wouldn't be different catagories of racing. I guess the easiest way to look at it is in the cycle world. You have racing in everything from 60cc upto 1200cc and higher. Goto 29palms highway in california, where the high desert meets the mojave valley. You can sit there for weeks on end and watch the 600cc bikes beat the crap out of 1000cc bikes all day long. Why? Because it's not always about the power, sometimes it takes a little bit of agility mixed with finesse and tuning. You want more power you will need more engine, which means a heavier vehicle.

I've already addressed the outstanding handling, chassis and steering of the 8. Few doubt these things, nor should they.

As far as acceleration, the 8 isn't necessarily slow. There is such a thing as the law of diminishing returns in the horsepower war, as there are in all things in life.

We are seeing new generations of I6s and V6s that are putting out in excess of 300 horsepower without forced induction, and V8s putting out in excess of 400 and 500hp.

Of course, all other things being equal, those cars are going to be faster than less powerful counterparts, but it's not exactly a proportional ratio formula.

A 100 horsepower difference between some competitively marketed cars may only result in 1/2 second in improvement in a 0-60 run, or maybe a second better time in the 1/4 mile.

While those are significant numbers in certain applications, they aren't that significant in the real world.

However, torque is something that is felt by the seat of one's pants, and this is where the 8 is anemic by contrast.

So, the 8 is actually decently quick in the real world, but it feels less so than it is, IMO, due to the lack of torque that is evident is so many of the newer gen 6 and 8 cylinder (and FI 4s, even) motors.

The type of people who would drive something that sounds like a truck, or something that looks like an economy family sedan, are not yet ready to enjoy the finer things in life.

It's been said earlier in the thread, but all hating stops if they go for a ride around one sharp corner.

Straight line is all well and fine, but handling is a thing of beauty.
