Whos right?

So ive always heared that when you redline the car once a day you elimate the carbon residue in the engine right? everyone says that but the other i went to the dealer and talked to the rotary mechanic and he said that taking the car to redline every day might just do the problem worse as the pump is just injecting even more oil into the engine. What do you guys think ?

just be careful of HOW you redline and dont' abuse the transmission too much. (ie; slamming it into 2nd)

Your engine oil should be a lot cleaner than your fuel. And probably has additives that help clean as well.

I was in the same situation. The mechanic told me once a week. But im going based on what this forum truly believes in which is once a day. Also about slamming into second, i usually redline IN second then shift to 4th. I read somewhere on here that its not good to go from 2nd redline to 3rd right away.

The 2004-2005 RX-8 models had notoriously low oil injection volumes and redlining the engine allowed for at least SOME additional oil to be injected into the engine, above the normal volumes. Whether or not this helps has yet to be objectively/scientifically proven to be beneficial but most people who "abuse" their RX-8s have few problems with carbon/lubrication.

Additionally, these oil concerns are why BHR promotes the use of the Cobb AccessPort and the Sohn OMP Adapter. With these products, there is no need to rev the crap out of your engine.
I always ran the crap out of my 2004 MT (still do) and it seems to be doing well @ > 80K miles
Now I have an AP and the Sohn is the next thing in.
How's your oil reservoir for Sohn coming along?

BTW: no need to redline; 7500 should be enough but redlining is fun!

Never heard this before, doesn't make any sense to me, and would make properly tracking the car quite difficult.

I thought the same. Thats what ive been doing ever since. I do notice that if i go straight to 3rd that its very jerky no matter how gentle i release the clutch.

This is exactly why I bought an Rx-8. After over a decade of people yelling at me about "******* my car", or "beating up my engine", I come across a car were people say, "for the health of the engine, red line once a day." my response? "**** YEAH, SOLD!!"

That Mazda tech is wrong.

Rev it because it needs to.

if u're using 2 stroke only like CRH said thru the adapter then u don't need to.

The carbon build up occurs due to driving the car at low rpms. Say always below 3000. Which is why so many AT's died prematurely. Keep the rpm's above 4000 and you wont have a carbon issue.

4000 to 9000 The engine loves it.

Mazda techs are taught how to repair a car. They are not taught how to care for a car and probably have never owned a rotary engined car. The people here have had to live with the RX8 and know more about maintenance that the techs do.

The "rotary mechanic" you spoke to is a f-ing idiot. Find yourself a new dealer. I wouldn't trust my car with this douche.

yea, to reinforce what everyone else has said, redlining the engine is not a bad idea. overrevving the engine IS however a bad idea. apex seal chatter can occur and who knows if the omp can keep up with the needed volume at 10K rpm. either way, thats why mazda installed a rev limited..to prevent over rev issues. at any rate, when running my engine, i shift right around the over rev buzzer or just when it starts. definatly be careful running the engine hard and slamming the gears in the trans. a delicate hand is needed but the right delicate hand can make shifting safe and fun at the same time!
