Who's checking out your RX-8?

Here in OC, it seems to go like this:

>BMW owners, particularly 3-series guys consistently come over to check out the RX-8 or stare at it in traffic. Maybe because styling/performance/packaging wise, it's how the 3-series coupe could be (not that the 3 isn't an outstanding car - it is)

>Audi A4 drivers (mostly guys driving 1.8Ts) always want to race... Don't know why this is -- sad, given the A4's weight and 170hp. For some reason this happens all the time

>G35 drivers tend to be older, more aggressive and really want to challenge the RX-8 on the road

>Not as many 350Z owners here as you might think -- surprising but it seems like there are a lot more G35 coupes here

>Boxster owners are oblivious to the RX-8

>Miata owners go nuts for the RX-8

>Any younger guy driving a hotted up Civic, RSX, etc... checks out the RX-8

>Surprisingly, given the potential cult status of the RX-8, other owners rarely wave...

i had some bald guy in a G35 coupe try to race me. i was pulling ahead until about 6K, then i took it to the buzzer and ate his and his kids lunch. surprised me how much faster the 8 was at higher revs.

for just checking out, honda people, and what really cool is when i return to my car there are OFTEN people standing around looking at the car. sometimes kids, families, car nerds, and most recently, two gay guys driving a miata.

It seems like I get a lot less attention than I did when I first got my car back in September. BAck then it seemed like everyone was checking out the car or saying something about it. Back in September I felt like I was driving a new Ferrari. Now I still get some looks but nothing like a few months ago. Maybe I'm just not paying as much attention to people paying attention to me.
I only raced once and it was only up to 60 mph. It was my friends C70 and I beat him by only 1/2 a car length. COuld have beat him by more but I only dropped the clutch at 3000.

everytime someone pulls up next to me that has the potential of race feaver i just sort of look over and give them one of those hello nods. I get a lot of people that see a bright yellow sporty car and come flying up to the light beside me all acting like they got to get the first chance to race. It seems like most of those guys that do that have a change of heart for some reason becuase when i look over their jaw is usually dropped..this is no BS either. The only reason i can see these people a mile away is, first, i used to be one of those idiots, and 2 i have three different cars and in my town its a regualar event to run into the same people drinving almost every single day. I have a 94 prelude and yes for some reason most punks just have totry to get me to race. I am wondering if the reason that i get a lot of dropped jaw is because people recognize me from driving the prelude and then see me in the 8 and wonder WTF is going on and OMG i am about to get my *** wooped.
Now i don't know if this is cocky but the funny thing is, I have yet to give anyone the satisfaction of getting me to race them.
I forgot to mention, i am 26 years old and still have race feaver but for some reason i dont submiss myself to it while in the 8.

BMW Z3 owner tried to race me. I thought there was something wrong with my car when he kept up with me, but then I realized it was an M series.

everyone checks it all the time.....a car load of high school girlies pulled along side at 60mph and commented on it. a retired couple in my complex on an early evening walk redirected themselves to comment on it. the li'l hottie in her workout clothes stopped by one afternoon and asked questions. had a dozen guys at work hovering over it the other day giveing it the once over.

guy at work constantly wants to race me across the bridge after work with his accord equipped w/baby seat(no baby), everytime i blow by him for about an eigth-of-a-mile then kick it back to speed limit and let him go by, figuring that's all i need to do. a few ppl acted like they wanted a challenge, but that's not why i got it so I don't.

tho, i have wanted to light up the tires, just haven't got the nerve to dump the clutch. has anyone lit up the *** end off a start? what rev did you use? anytime i drive it remotely hard i feel guilty later, like i was abusing it, even though it can handle quite a bit.

That's because they're not sure enough of a win. I do the same thing with cars I know I have no chance against.

Ya, I talked with TONS of Miata owners who go nuts for the RX-8. The group of drivers you left out though are the RX-7 owners. They go just as crazy as the Miata owners do!

i have my first rotary club meeting this saturday as the first rx-8 to the club, i am curious to see how the reaction of all the 7 owners will be. ihave met a few of them and there was only one brave enough to say..."can i sit in it?" i thought this was sort of funny since after all it is just a mazda.

Coming back from a business trip today, I passed a 350z on I-75 near Macon. He watched me (the 8) the whole time I was passing him, and then sped up and rubbernecked as he passed me. I was pretty surprised.

I used to have an 8 (did the buyback), now have a Z and in both cars people (especially ricers) want to race at stoplights....

I do, however notice a difference since switching from the 8 to the Z, in the 8 damn near everybody (i.e. teenagers or people in "fast" cars) wanted to race, probably because the car was so rare (especially when I had it in July-Aug).

After driving the Z for 2 months now I've noticed that most of the ricers leave me alone (praise whatever higher deity you prefer), some still pull up and do their thing, I ususally just laugh at them (the higher the wing, the less likely the race), but I must admit once and a while i succumb to temptation.....

As a Z driver now and former 8 driver I don't consider them to be in the same class and would never consider a street race between the two a fair fight. Around the twisties at slow speed...hmmm the 8 might have some chance on a stock Z but the 274 lb-ft torque pulling out of each corner would probably still walk the 8....outcome highly driver-dependant

This is probably why, as someone else here posted "Z drivers don't even give me a look"....G35s are mostly driven by older, bald men, not really anything to brag about...

I'm not ragging on the 8, I enjoyed it while I had it (can you say "Road Trip to Vegas?"...sure you can..) but it's not a "street racer"....

Hello all,

I get eye balled so much it's embarrassing. I knew when I first bought this car eyes would turn, but I had no idea that it would come to this. As of yet, have had no one try to race me. (only owned it for 22 days) but I'm sure this will happen sooner or later. Almost every stop I make at the grocery stores, work, etc etc there are people that approach me.....hmmm I mean my car.

The craziest thing that has happened to me is a younger male who saw me, (I mean the car) and starting waving his arm like he was cheering a football team or something. I just shrunk in my seat and wondered what I just witnessed. Whoo.

Did I fail to mention how much I love this car? Did I. Lovin it!

A older female in a G35 tried to swell up on me while I was on my bike. I think there's something in the interior of the G35 that makes the driver think it's faster than it is. Nice car but too heavy and defnitely not fast enough to keep up with the bike. My wife was on her way home in the 8 about 10 cars back and I didn't know but she caught me at the freeway exit ramp stop light and yelled at me for racing. Mom's always watching! I completely destroyed the G35 though. No shock. I have only raced the 8 against a riced out civic and it wasn't much of a contest. I think I'll be more selective on who I race if I do it from now on.

~4K will do the trick. No need to totally dump the clutch, just let it out pretty quick and stand on the gas. I can break them loose in third without killing my car, I couldn't do that without the Borla exhuast. I drive it like it was meant to be driven, but I don't abuse it. I haven't raced it yet, although like others, I have the urge to do so. Some guy in a V6 Mustang tried to race me the other day, he wouldn't let up. I figured that if I'm going to break the law and pay the consequences I should at least have fun while doing it. So I just laughed off the 'stang.

What is up with the G35 owners? Young guy early 20s pulls up to me at the freeway entrance meter while in the carpool lane and stopped until my light when green and he let her rip. This is the only time I raced it, but hehe the guy looked pissed when I cut in front of him and got on the freeway before him....

Cool

Hey oosik here's judgeito doing a sweet burn out don't be fooled the water was not helping and yes both wheels were spinning..It was posted here on this forum...http://www.vosko.net/media/burnout/j...rnout.AVI.....

Also I'm very surprised anyone is talking about kills...as we all know street racing is illeagal and this forum really frowns upon it...but it's still nice to here that people are proving what the rx8 can do on the streets....just do it as safely as possiable...as in extremly light traffic non residental areas...and of course no pedstrians...street racing is not something to do just to prove you got bigger ***** then some other guy.....The 8 holds it's own...

From a 23 year old....who yearns for an 8 and a chance at the track...Peace

I have every 350z and g35 owner give the car looks (practically everyone, but i take note of those cars the most) and BMW and every other luxury car. Most notably the 350z roadster owner who did Excorcist turn on my car. His eyes didn't let go of the prize....
