Where'd those come from?

Some of the RX-8's with the appearance package have 2 clips that divide up the black strips behind the front wheels. One of them is like that on the top of this website. Mine didn't come with those but they add tremendous to the overall look of the side of the car. How can I get some?

They are called fender strakes - you can get them from trussville mazda or your dealer.

I think they look pretty good, but I don't have them. Not sure on the cost - if you have a look in the appearance forum or do a search for fender strake you will likely find a bunch of threads on the topic.

NEWS ALERT! The strakes do not make the car go any faster. (I will, begrudgingly, admit that they don't look too "ricey"/kustom/pimp-like/red-neck-y). In fact, I might actually consider putting some on my Ti....

Ti and Silver are the two colors I wouldn't put the strikes on. I think it just wouldn't work as well because the strike color would be too similar to the body color. On Black, I think they should be required, though, because it really finishes off the look.

You can find them online, here. At $250 for a set, I think they aren't worth it.

I (as the owner of a strake-less black 8) am still hoping someone will come up with a DIY - fender strakes thread. I just cannot convince my purse to let go of that much money for a few thin strips of fake chrome!!!

They are not fake chrome. They are machined aluminum.
They cost about 200 through Trussville MAzda.
They look good on the Silver.

I believe I paid $190 for the strakes from Rosenthal Mazda about 2 months ago. Well worth it IMO. Installation is not too hard either. Just make sure you follow the instructions from the DIY section in this forum because the instructions that come with the strakes tell you to use the wrong holes when putting the strakes on.

I think they look great.

Strakes look great.

I suggest for anybody contemplating buying an RX8 with strakes.... buy them when you buy the car. You might be able to negotiate them right out of existence and when you are dropping 30Gs US (45-50Gs CND).... an extra couple hundred bucks dont seem that bad at all and make practially no difference in your monthly pmt.

Its when you buy them separately is when its really hard to drop the same cash.

It can make you fly...

It is ok as long as you are not having the MazdaSpeed kit with it (sorry cortc)... I still need time to digest that idea.

I prefer carbon fiber fender for dressing up though

I got my strakes for fathers day! Kids always say I'm hard to buy for so I dropped the hint.

The Strakes are ~$200 from truss or rosen.

I bought them and installed myself, took about 20 mins from start to finish.

They look great on my silver.

It would be a shame to paint them.

I wouldn't paint them. They are polished aluminum. I have seen them on every color 8 and they look good on each and every color. Don't know why anyone would want to paint them. They are worth the $190.

I guess i will leave them silver. Just thought it might look good on a yellow to have black and the only way i new to do it was to paint the aluminum ones. But you are right , it would be wrong to paint them. I just hope after i spend the money i like it on Yellow.
