Where to get remanufactured engine?

I have a blown engine with less than 60K miles, but it is out of 8 year extended warranty.

The dealer wants too much for labor, and I have a shop that has done rotaries before and is much less money.

The question is where do I get the reman engine from? I heard they were about $2100 - but I assume that is with taking back your core.

I called one source (all they had was used) who said they calls every single day from people needing 2004 RX-8 engines. Very disillusioned with Mazda at this point.

The list price of a Mazda Reman is $2001.00 + $1,000.00 core charge. However, most dealers (all of my local ones were much more than $2001.00) charge a huge mark up so it could be much more than list price. Also, the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty you get a Mazda reman is only valid if a Mazda dealer installs the engine.

Your best bet is to contact a reputable builder. My last engine was rebuilt by Rob @ Pineapple Racing and it was a wonderful experience.
