When passing another 8 owner...

...do you guys/gals acknowledge each other? When passing a fellow 8 owner?

What I mean is as you both pass each other on a two lane road going in opposite directions. OR, when passing them if they are parked, driving past them, etc?

Do you give the little wink or thumbs up thing?

I just saw a guy in his 8 going the opposite direction and I flashed him with my lights. Kinda like the "warning a cop ahead thing"

What do you guys/gals do?

I either nod, wave, honk, or flash high beams.

99% of the time they respond positively

What cgrx said and include hazard flash. I like that you can do that in this car like the Wrangler people.

I waved at this person next to me in an 8 who turned out to be an older lady. She looked scared, like she didn't know I had the same car. I proceeded to say, "beotch gimme your car." Ok, i didn't do that, but she had the samle look as if I did.

I wave, however most of them I see in Orlando won't even look at you. Except once a lady driving a black one.

i've tried communicating with Rx-8 drivers on the road, but never got a response. is it that you guys don't know your heritage or just don't care? obviously i get more responses from other Gen I Rx-7 people, but other Rx-7 drivers (regardless of generation) will respond favorably on occasion.

i mean, i don't care either way, but i'm just curious about Rx-8 owners ...

I flash an 8.

That's the American Sign Language sign for the number 8.

I always wave... but NO 8 owners ever respond... That may be because im only 20. The only RX owner to ever respond was around the same as me with a beautifully built RX7. Oh yea and i got flicked off by 2 guys that were about 30 years old in a 350Z for no reason before... at least 8 owners dont do that :p

On the contrary, at least with my experience. The middle aged folks (some in their 50's) have been extremely enthusiastic when seeing me. I've had one go so far as to whip a u-turn and catch up to me @ a stop light to wave like mad. He had this **** eating grin on his face like he was a 16 YO driving. It was cool. Most people(regardless of age) are pretty friendly. Except one lady around here, I have tried time and time again to wave and she has never responded back. It's not like she hasn't seen me, she has on more than one occasion been looking directly at me when I wave.

:D i understand that you guys don't represent he majority of Rx-8 owners. :D no, i was just throwing it out there more with the hopes of getting a feel of how many of you would respond to a rotary Mazda in general, as opposed to just a fellow Rx-8 driver ... that's all.

i hope i didn't come off like i was generalizing or something ...

I usually just give them a nod, but unfortunately, people don't usually look over.

Horn and/or wave, I've even done it with some Miata owners as well, and always with 8 owners, just don't see enough of them.

UberJumper:

That AMSLAN symbol for the numeral 8 is amazingly like the popular "shocker" hand sign :D

When going head to head, I give a flicker of headlights. When passing or being passed side to side, a look and a smile, and if acknowledged, a thumbs-up as well is the usual pleasantry.

Short wave / salute

Same as I used to do riding Sport Bikes for twenty some years. Bikers aways responded. Of the six or seven ( RX8's ) I have encountered here in Toronto, all responded in some manner.

Wow! I am totally enthusiastic about driving such a great car, enjoy beeping it as much as the next owner and obviously I'm a member of rx8club too.

OTOH, I'm 50 years old, I love the way my RX-8 looks and I'm very pleased with the amount of car I got for the price.

So abbid, am I qualified to be here/drive this or not? I'm really confused! :p

I ride a Buell motorcycle too and we always wave because we ride exclusive machines and it takes certain attitudes to drive/ride them.

Hell, I'll wave/honk/flash/blink to any Wankel powered vehicle or Mazda owner for that matter. Sadly as someone stated before this site represents a very small portion of 8 owners and most of the ones I see on the road just don't care to respond.

I typically wave to other 8 owners, don't always get a response though.

A guy in a red sport package was nice enough to not only wave, but let me in traffic this morning as I was stuck behind a stupid Rapid bus on Wilshire Blvd! What a great guy.

I usually give a peace sign, or the 2 finger "wazzup" (stick up your middle and pointer finger without removing your hand from the wheel...otherwise known as the country wave). I live in an area where there are maybe 4 or 5 other 8's (eastern Iowa), and I have yet to pull up next to one at a light. It's always going in opposite directions. There are 2 black ones, one red and I think one other S.Silver (but with no app. pkg.) and one Grey. I'm sure there are others, as my local dealer seems to be selling them reasonably well. It's wierd, they always seem to have four or five on the lot and have no problem selling them or getting them in stock. I've heard some people say the've had a hard time getting thier hands on one.

lol, so lights flashing and thumbs up is the norm...maybe a honk or two in there also...

I did it to some guy and he looked confused or like he just could not get to his light's fast enouhg, lol. My neigbor's boyfriend (they rent the house next to mine "college kids") just got a white RX8...nice, but I did not say anything. I guess it felt weird when the person was right there....lol

I'll give it up to another 8, 7, or a Miata, and maybe a 3 because it's usually younger guys that wanted to get an 8 but couldn't afford it. I've also gotten waves, etc. from guys in other mid-to-high end sports cars (like Boxsters, Zs(surprisingly), Z4s, and G35Cs). It seems the only dumbasses that want to race or deliver some kind of smartass gesture are in pieces of crap or SUVs.
