When / How often to do 4 wheel alignment?

Feel free to move to Tire, Wheel section if appropriate, but the Discussion area gets more eyes.

When should one do a 4 wheel alignment? Should it happen at each 30K tune up? Sooner/later?

My 8 is going in for the 30K soon and was hoping to get opinions.

Thanks!

whenever you notice uneven tirewear/steering wheel off center/pulls one way or the other...

Some ppl say once a yr but if the tires are wearing even and not pulling etc etc then no sense in spending 70 buck or more to align something that is not even out...

assuming the tires are wearing evenly, the steering wheel isn't off-center, you haven't slammed into curbs, or messed with the suspension too much...

I recommend getting your alignment checked every 2 years.

I haven't had the alignment checked since I bought the car with 12K miles on it. It pulls slightly to the right. Might as well have them check it out when I take it in.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I get new tires every year, doesn't necessarily mean I need an alignment.

After a drop, no matter how mild you need and alignment. Your Toe and Camber will be most noticably affected.

Yea i would agree with 2 years. Everything but oil should be done in two year intervals. Oil of course should be done more often. And uneven tirewear is an obvious indicator of the need of an alignment. Just do it, getting the alignment is cheaper than replacing tires quicker. I noticed i needed an alignment when my front right tire's outside was wearing faster during a tire rotation. Went to a shop and still praying my stock tires will last 15k miles ...

^ Well if they don't, you get to choose from a selection of tires that are far superior to either the Bridgestone or Dunlop OEM tires.
