When does RX-8 production end?

Hi there,

I was wondering when do you guys think the RX-8 will cease production.

Magazines here say we should be seeing another RX model for MY09 (Senku?)

If that info is true, should we see improvements for MY 07 and, possibly, a Mazdaspeed for MY 08?

Cheers,

Miguel

Mazda does not talk about future products, so all we have left to talk about are rumors and wild crazy guesses

No one knows regardless of what some will come on here and claim. Some of the nonrotary people would love to see it end after this year and speculate it will. We also don't know if anything will happen with the Senku concept or if thee will ever be an MS8.

From what I've heard they will not be producing any 2006 units due to the assembly plant burning down. Production will continue in 2007. Got my info from the dealer. Not sure how much truth there is to it.

I think it would be better for Mazda to produce RX8's every other year to help prevent market saturation.

Plus, I don't want to see a Mazda RX8 every where I go. I like having a rare and unique car.

It's true. They shut down the plant in '06 and sent everyone to Hawaii. Then will start everything back up in 07, produce 5 cars, then shut down again and use the plant to make Mustangs!

People need to stop listening to their dealers. It's like listening to random people on the internet.

Having a fire, and burning down to the ground is not the same thing. Anyway since the plant in question resumed work 4/2005 your info is a bit old. As for you other statement I am sure Mazda agrees, who wants to be like Ford and sell hundreds of thousands of Mustangs?

I am sure Ford/Mazda would sell that many RX8's given the chance, but it would cut Mustang sales. This probably wouldn't ever happen anyway due to the higher price of the RX8. Mustangs appeal to more people due to how cheap they are.

Aren't they building a Renesis powered Rocket Ship now at the plant? It will be used for the sequel to "Contact"

If people that wanted to buy an RX-8 found out exactly the REAL gas mileage, the car would definitely be a rare sight on the road.

Prices of the car is dropping fast here in California.

This is just an opinion but I think the issue with sales of the RX-8 is the rotary engine scares most people. Gas mileage was not even in my mind when I went looking for a sports car. Mazda should have done a better job in marketing that a maintained N/A rotary can last as long as a piston. Show some guy in his garage doing an oil change on a FB, with a FC and a RX-8 in the background. Then say something like “ my first rx-7 190,000 miles, my second 120,000 now my RX-8 ZOOM-ZOOM”. Show a workbench with a multi valve piston engine taken apart then a Renesis to show the fewer parts and in theory the fewer things that can break on a Renesis. Mazda should have assumed all the ‘ rotary heads ‘ would not have to be sold on the RX-8 and make most of the marketing that the Renesis is nothing to be scared of. They should have backed the engine with a longer warranty. 4/50,000 on the car and lets say 8 / 90,000 on major engine work. How about an ad campaign about how great the rotary was / is and stand behind it with a longer engine warranty? Once you get over the fears of the masses and get a bunch of these cars on the road word of mouth can take over.

I think longer warrenties are BS. If the product is good, it dosen't need a longer warrenty. Sometimes manufacterers use longer warrenties for piece of mind but how about an advertisement campaign saying, "We aren't going to do a longer warrenty because we don't have to."

Look at the Kia's and their ten year warrenty campaign there were doing a couple years ago. Those cars needed em because they are crap! And who keeps a kia for 10 years anyways?

Look the renisis, i think, can hit 200k miles without out of the ordanary repairs, as long as you kept up on it's maintenenace. It dosen't need an outragious warrenty.

But a lot of people who were scared to buy a Kia because it was a piece of crap bought one anyway because they figured they wouldn't have to pay to get stuff fixed on it for the next ten years.

When you're selling a product that scares people, making a long warrenty is a plus, not a minus.

Most people assume that a company wouldn't put a 10 year warrenty on a product unless they believed that the majority of said product wouldn't need any warrenty work in that 10 year span.

My wife has a Kia, and yes the thought of not worrying for tens years, even if your not going to keep the car tens years, is a plus. Who wants to worry about break down repairs when your still making payment on a car.

BTW, the kia is 3 years old and hasn't seen the inside of the dealer service dept once...can you say the same for your 8...

On a second note. I lease my 8, which ends in 1 year. I love this car, but by the time it comes around for me to buy, the warranty will almost be up. If Mazda had done a 7/70K for the engine, I would probably keep it but as of now, I leaning against it...

RX-8 production is scheduled to stop in July of 2007.

That is when they will begin retooling for the RX-9!

I work in the IT dept for an Internet pornography company. I try not to think about what paid for my RX-8 Before that I spent nine years in Car Rental.

My point about the longer engine warranty was more marketing than mechanical. Mazda needs to convince people that owning this car is not that much different than owning a Honda. They need to back up those words in writing and a longer warranty on the most ‘ unusual’ part of that car would help. Perception and fact are rarely the same. The perception by the average person is the rotary is too unique to be reliable Mazda needs to change that. Don’t you still find it strange that you still need to inform people what kind of car you drive when it been for sale since 2003? The Korean car companies had a rep (a deserved one) for cheap junk; it’s not that way now. It was changed by long warranties and better cars, which lead to good word of mouth. I love my RX-8 but Mazda did not market this car well and should remember that making all the car magazine reviews happy doesn’t equal sales.
