I was skeptical at first, but I have to say I've grown to love the Black Cherry color. I've never had so many people come up to me and say "I love that color… what is it?" And the light Parchment interior sets it off nicely.

Thing is, the color is really schizo: Black Cherry in the sun, just black at night, and an ugly dull brownish when it's dirty or if it's cloudy. It's like that girl in the Seinfeld episode who, depending on the light, is either gorgeous or hideous.

In terms of Shinka, I find Copper Red is nicer than the Black Cherry. Reminds me of a car that Joker would drive.

MY Shinka is Galaxy Gray Mica. The wheels look just like all the rest. The best part is the dark strips along each side of the console instead of the aluminum. The MSRP with Aero pk and rear wing was $ 34.6. I paid $ 27.8, thats the reason I got a Shinka.

Shinka

I got mine for 23,000 (sticker at 33)because they had to get rid of all their 06 models and I'm completely happy with it. I get compliments on her all the time. The keyless entry is awesome and the heated leather seats make the ladies...warm.

if they had offered the shinka in a metallic black, oem navi, and 2-toned interior leather options, then i would've considered it. but, in the u.s., none of these options were available. the white leather is just going to be too high maintenance for some of us. and, what's a "special edition" without an oem navi? they finally offered more than just black cherry (purple metallic), but that was too fruity a color for some of us. they were shooting for a more elegant, luxurious model but put together the package all wrong. even with the extra "luxury features," the 8 is not a true luxury sports car. and, no amount of rationalization will make it a lexus or bmw. still, i guess it's better that they even provided some sort of shinka option at all. just, i don't think it has the right combo of features that owners wanted in a high-end 8...

Black Cherry Mica is hardly a "fruity" color at all. While it looked like a purple metallic in some photos, in real life it's quite different—the vast majority of people who see the car at first think it's black. Then, on closer examination, they realize it's this deep, dark, almost black cherry—more the color of Coca Cola. "Oh wow, what color is this?? At first I thought it was black!" is something I've heard time and again. I've never had more compliments on a color, including one guy who wanted to paint the tank of his Harley to match.

^+1. I receive a great deal of positive comments on the color. I'm glad the Shinka isn't a great deal different than a GT package. I'm sure it is partially because of general RX-8 sales but I probably would not have been able to afford one otherwise.

When the 2005 Shinka came out I knew that was the RX I wanted and I thought I'd never get one because I wasn't ready to buy until 2006. But I ended up getting a good deal because they were not selling. Damn happy about it. BC ftw!

i'm not knocking black cherry, because i personally really do love the color. all i'm saying is that it might not have been for everyone, being that in direct sunlight, it's purple. and, regardless how the hue changes, purple is always going to be a color that some people will be on the fence on. in japan mazda offered the shinka in 5 different colors right off the bat. so, it was odd they only offered black cherry in the u.s.- esp for the flagship "luxury," high-end model.

I'm not trying to belabor this but the purple-ish color of it in sunlight is really understated if you have not seen one in person. It has no gaudiness to it at all.

The production pics of it overstate the purple.

lol... u guys just won't let this go and are completely missing my point... for the last time, i said that i like the cherry black mica. but. ok ok, the black cherry mica is the best color and the only color worthy of ownership. all other colors suck in comparison to it and if we don't have black cherry mica we should all hate ourselves, burn our cars, and wish we had it... satisfied? <LOL> good grief

You forgot to mention that Shinka black cherry is the fastest color, best handling, and its exhaust smells like lilacs.

It's getting tiresome to keep having to repeat that all the time!

Wow, you got a great deal!

I think we all probably get lots of positive comments regardless of color. The ladies do love the heated seats don't they

I can definitely feel the difference w/the upgraded suspension, coming from my 05 Winning Blue... the seats are more comfortable then the leather...

I did not notice much change using the DSC switch in my 05 - i thought it was the car itself until I noticed a big difference w/the 06 - anyone notice this problem on theirs...

I drive a Shinka and ive driven my friends GT and this isnt really much of a difference in the overall performance and handling but I definately find my car more comfortable and I get countless compliments about that color "I saw your car I thought it was black at first that such a pretty color!". Shinkas are just tight

I once had another RX-8 driver pull up to me at a red light and ask me if the color was a custom paint job. Love that black cherry! And.... mmmmmm, lilacs!...
