What's a SHINKA?

Compared to any other loaded 8, there's not much cost difference. It's more than just paint and stickers, so good for the folks who dig the color combo. I'll be interested to see if the little mods on the car go standard next year.
Smuck
I am enjoying the vast majority of this board but IMHO there are too many posts where anyone who buys anything but an Rx-8 in someone else's favorite color is an idiot or their sexual orientation is questioned. Viva la difference!

Hm, seems a lot more brown than I had expected...I've seen other pics, but I've never seen it look brown, only purpleish. Not sure I like that. I like the tan interior A LOT and wish they'd offer it on the black cars (would have gotten it in mine if it were available). I like the lip spoiler too, not sure if I'd take that or the standard spoiler if I had the choice. They're both pretty nice looking.

really I plan on a suspension upgrade when I have the time
Another difference is the inside of the headlight and taillights are chromed instead of silver paint. I had to look several times even to notice it. so what is Shinka in a cyborg name?

From Mazda's site:
It may seem like it's hard to improve on the RX-8 - one of the most critically acclaimed sports cars on the road today, as well as one of the most innovative. So, instead, Mazda has evolved the RX-8.
The RX-8 Shinka - "Shinka" means "evolution" in Japanese - is equipped with exclusive new features, several exterior and interior material upgrades, and enhanced chassis and suspension tuning.
Offered in both 6-Speed and Sport AT versions, the Shinka is equipped with the RX-8 Grand Touring Package, which includes a Bose® 300-watt 9-speaker sound system with 6-disc CD changer, heated mirrors and seats, and a sunroof, among other items. The model is available exclusively in a rich Black Cherry Mica exterior matched by similarly exclusive parchment leather-trimmed seats.

That's a very rich color. Too bad it isn't available across the line. The tan interior is nice too. I think that Mazda has a problem with their interior colors. No flame intended, but Mazda's very dark color schemes severely limit the interior potential. Lliving in the San Fernando Valley in the summer can get really hot. A lighter color interior makes the car a lot more liveable. My wife's Miata with black interior was always 10 degrees hotter than the tan interior on my 330CI.
However, I would be a little concerned as to why Mazda has chosen to introduce a "special edition" so soon in the model run. Most companies start repackaging when sales level off and they need to pop something fresher in the showroom. There are exceptions, such as the leather editions of the MX5, but sooner or later pieces of those specials usually end up on the regular ordering sheet. And they almost never recoup anything more in resale. Still, it's a nice color.

To me there is a big wow factor when you get into a shinka that isn't there on the other RX8's.
Now if it would just quit snowing, dry up, and get about 30 degrees warmer I could actually take shinka out of the garage for a spin. :D
