A car is the sum of it's whole. Top speed being one of the parts of that equation.

I saw easily 234km/h on a totally flat road and when there was no wind.

But that was before I replaced the IG coils and the coils were then 7 years old!

And more importantly, there was no vibration and wind noise inside. There were 2 girls inside and we had a nice conversation while going at that speed.

The fastest I've taken my stock 8 is 149mph... and I was pushing it HARD downhill on a local highway to do it.

I've seen redline in 6th gear... not sure how fast I was going because I had the speedo swapped over to kmh, and I more concerned with looking at the road. It's pretty easy to get up to that speed with F.I. and the autobahn .

I was racing a V8 M3 and I stood no chance.

This post doesn't make much sense if you actually read it. I think there are some words missing, others used incorrectly. Generally unclear what you are saying.

I saved this data from a Car & Driver road test of the RX-8 back in 2005. As I recall, the max speed shown in each gear was when the engine hit 9000 RPM, except 6th gear. The engine did not have enough grunt to pull RPM redline in that tall gear. So, I think the general consensus is that the manual tranny RX-8 can realistically hit somewhere between 145 MPH and 152 on it's own - no cheating with tailwinds or down hill highways:

1st gear: 39 MPH
2nd gear: 65 MPH
3rd gear: 89 MPH
4th gear: 124 MPH
5th gear: 147 MPH
6th gear: 148 MPH

Your intake revs to 152 mph... That's awesome! [/confusedsarcasm]

I don't know how fast mine goes.. I've only had it up to 120 KP/H ...yep... kilometres... that's 75 mp/h for the 'Muricans

Sorry. What I meant to say was in 6th gear with just a revi ram intake duct, my car revs to 152.

That still doesn't make any sense. The rev range is 0rpm to 9,000rpm. 152rpm is below the engine cranking speed.

I think you mean "in 6th gear I can hit 152mph", at which point your revs would be somewhere around 7,600rpm for a Series1 MT.

went to 235km/h in 5th and it still had some left. I put it in 6th and it stayed there with 3/4 throttle.

126 fast as I've got my stock 06 8 so I'd say 130 for the automatics

250kph (=155mph) in 5th is no problem
and then there still 6th gear left, but even on the german Autobahn it´s hard to find out what´s possible because of traffic and the fact that the topspeed of the RX-8 needs a looooong runway...

my personal record is about 260kph (=161mph) in 6th gear
( GPS show me a difference of ~3kph between speedo and GPS)

Not sure what transmission you are using, but the 5th gear in the US spec 6speed manual with the 4.44 rear gear redlines at 140mph. 155mph is only reachable with 6th gear. (Or i guess if you have increased your rev limit to 9,900rpm or higher)

Its the normal 6Speed MT with the 231hp engine
Dont know if there are differences between US and EU gears:

1 gear - 3,760
2 gear - 2,269
3 gear - 1,645
4 gear - 1,187
5 gear - 1,000
6 gear - 0,843
rear gear 4,44

i´m absolutely sure that the speedo showed 250kph = 155mph serveral times
But 250kph is the absolut maximum, as soon if u hit 250 u will hit the limiter too.
4th Gear ends at 210kph = 130mph

If u look at the speedo, the 6 Speed MT version revs to 9500rpm

The tach is not super accurate. You are not hitting 9500rpm without a tune. There is no speed limiter except for Jesus or physics.

Same transmission ratios...
https://www.rx8club.com/series-ii-te...ussion-135710/
04-'08' RX-8 (3.760 - 2.269 - 1.645 - 1.187 - 1.000 - 0.843 - 4.440)
09' RX-8 R3 (3.815 - 2.260 - 1.640 - 1.177 - 1.000 - 0.832 - 4.770)

Speed @Redline, '04-'08 RX-8 - 2nd - 63.6 / 3rd - 87.8 / 4th - 121.6 / 5th - 144.4 / 6th - 171.3
Speed @Redline, '09 RX-8 R3 - 2nd - 60.6 / 3rd - 83.6 / 4th - 116.4 / 5th - 137.0 / 6th - 164.7
...but your redline info doesn't fit. The redline info in this quote is accurate from everything I have physically experienced (excepting 6th gear)

I'm guessing that the difference is tires? 7.6% smaller circumference vs stock will give you a 155mph indicated speed in 5th gear at redline.

Yeah i know that the tach isnt very accurate, but like i wrote before: difference between gps and tach is 100-250 constantly 3kph
Also: the Revlimiter ist set to 9000, but the tach shows 9500 when u hit the limiter

For example: Look at this Video - 200kph in 4th and he shifts at 9000rpm, but he could go to 9500rpm and if u do so, u will hit 210kph (tach)

a consistent 3kph difference doesn't make sense either, since it is entirely % based. 3kph at 100 is 3% off, 3kph at 250 is only 1.2% off. The nature of everything involved will mean that the % difference is always going to be the same. Perhaps GPS time-lag is a factor.

You got a point there, but remember: our tach isnt mechanical, it´s electronic, so there doenst have to be a constant difference.
But i think your right, GPS lag should be the problem, plus the fact that looking at two speedo´s at 250kph is some kind of hard^^
If i find time the next day´s i will set up my GoPro and go for one test

And no: Tires are 225/45 R18 with OEM Rims

Did not read entire thread, but there's a video of Series I RX-8 on autobahn and I believe he hits 154mph with a passenger.
