Get a 6 port, whether you'll mod it or not.

There's a major horsepower upgrade forum here. I think you'll get more information there than here in the general discussion forum.

As far as making it your own...RX-8s are uncommon enough that you're halfway there even if you don't do anything to it. But if you get one, have fun with it.

I think you should do research on this car before you buy it....... There are very few mods for this car (almost none for 09+).

And even if you spend tons of money turboing the car I doubt you are going to get close to 500hp. This doesn't really sound like the car for you.

The highest horsepower figure I have seen for a turbo Renesis is 425. Your biggest problem is the E-spec ecu. I don't know if it is tuneable or not. I would suggest you contact a UK RX8 forum or sign up at http://www.rotaryheaven.net/, a EU based forum. They should be able to answer questions to your regions car model.

When people say to do your own research, that also includes the information on forums that has already been discussed. You're not going to find anything in this thread that has not already been posted somewhere else before. Though the prices for used 8's might be fairly low now, the amount you'd be investing in buying an 8 and modifying like you want to is high enough to justify putting some effort into doing your own research. Even if you're planning on going to a performance shop to have everything done, it's good to understand the basics on your own.

If you aren't willing to put the effort into researching properly, don't even bother trying to get an 8 and turbocharge it.

Your goals are too optimistic and if you're not just saying random hp figures then this isn't the car for you.
6 port over 4 port if you want to make power.

There are no such things like stage 1,2,3 tunes. You're logged in the real world now, not on Xbox live sorry
Building a 390rwhp rx8 is a serious build, not just a base turbo kit installation and some minor tweaks.

50% of 231 is basically 115. A 50% gain would still be under 350 (246 hp) using those numbers. Now you have to account for the fact that they use engine output numbers, not the power at the wheels. A good 8 makes about 190 whp when stock.

I'm not sure how, logically, the 4 port could be better for making more power than the 6 port.

And again, this is a forum of owners. This thread will not give you any information that you can't find posted here already. There is at least 7-8 years worth of knowledge posted by owners. Everything you want to know can be found posted here already.

Then listen to what people are telling you and do some basic research on the threads already on this forum. There is tons of great information already available in the major horespower upgrade section.

GO READ IT!

I'm only saying this in hopes of saving an RX-8 from improper care. If you're going with a turbocharger, you want a tune specific to your set up. That is one of the most important things to insuring the safety of the car and the power it produces. The descriptions found in that site are obviously not RX-8 specific. Only work with a company that has experience (preferably a good track record) with rotaries or else you shouldn't bother.

Where are you seeing this? Please provide a few links. With even a basic understanding of how engines work, it seems obvious why the 6 port would be a better platform.

I don't believe the 4 port engine has had any serious work yet. It is an unknown. Most people that have taken the time to mod an engine have used the 6 port because of the higher initial HP and here in the States, it was initially the one mated to the manual trans. In the past few years the 6 port is the only one that has been sold.
