Exclamation whats the deal with allocations?

my dealer is getting 8 cars in the 1st allocation and im #7. does that mean all 8 cars will arrive at the dealer at the same time on the same truck? or will they be split up?

that would suck. god i hate my inept dealer. i was the first one to put a $500 deposit way back in august. then when the rx8 was unveiled at NAIAS and they started taking preorders, i was waiting for my damn dealer to call me, but they didnt(no surprise there). so i call like the next day and i go place my order to find out im all the way in the back at #7 and the guy actually says to me "i saved u one", and im thinking gee thanks idiot i was the first one to put a deposit and u save me the second to last spot, it woulda been better if u had called me when preorders were available and given me the #1 spot.

that is what the rep said when i drove the rx8... for example, the first allocation is estimated in June/July... a dealer having 8 allocated will get the entire shipment over 4-8 week time span... so it can vary from dealer to dealer... on average, dealers will get 2-3 at a time.. that was wha ti was told

omg if thats true then it sucks big time, i hope its not. god i hate my dealer. the ineptitude of my dealer is really truly amazing.

but since the cars r coming thru southern ca ports wont we be well supplied? isnt that always how it works? like when the evo came out, the westside got a whole bunch of em, then east coast got them, then like a month later, the middle states finally got them. and since mazda is headquartered in irvine, maybe they will give us more? wishfull thinking

You also need to take into account that Mazda doesn't make the cars in the order they were received. They make them in similar bunches. Like all reds with moonroofs, then reds without, then grey with, and grey without, etc. etc. etc. so that being said you still have a small chance of actually getting your #7 spot in before any of the others, but it all depends on what you ordered and what they build first and ship.

i should be the first, give or take, depending on when i pick it up, if i do indeed decide 100% for the 8, which i probably will...

I'll tell you what, I am SO glad I was #1 at my dealer. His allocation is 2 cars period. He gets no more until he sells one. The #2 car is going in their showroom. So, the 2nd guy on the list won't get his until AFTER mine is sold, and they get their normal stock.

The dealer allocation may be based on how large of dealership is and how much volume of other Mazdas they have sold.

With that said, my dealer is Ferman in Tampa. His first allocation is only 4 RX-8's. I'm #3. He said he was due to get 7 more in after that allocation. whether that is divided up into several allocations or 7 in the second, I don't know.

That's exactly how it worked. My dealer got nine!

Yep - a smaller dealer near me is getting three and then no more until after January 1, 2004, where a larger dealer is expecting three groups of three at about one or two month intervals...
