What is the worst thing about the RX-8????????

It is hard to find fault in such a wonderful machine, but the number one thing to me is........The bad Bose.
This is just minor as it can be replaced.

I sometimes get the feeling the 8 was rushed. Those metal RX-8 panels on the door sills is coming off and lamination on it is bubbling. That's pathetic and very tacky looking.

- Winning_BlueRx8

I noticed "bubbling" on the aluminum panels on the door sills as well - but only on the driver's side. I found that the "bubbling" was acutally the plastic sheet that the dealer had forgotten to remove on the driver's side sill. It isn't actually laminated.

- I know this has been moaned over numerous times.....but the lower than advertised gas mileage is one of my only complaints.

Do a search for the old thread called "the little disappointing things"

The worst thing for me is that I still don't own one

why is this thread even here??? why do we want to dwell on the negative? C'mon people, the car has provided so much pleasure for us all...

no car is perfect, there will always be a thing here or a thing there that may be a bit disappointing, but I personally think I bought a real winner.

One of my proudest purchases was this car.

Let's get real for a second.. I don't expect my car will be exactly as it was when I bought it throughout the life of the car. Things wear down.. Some parts quicker on some cars, than other parts.

Everyone's mileage varies depending on how they use their car.. For some of us, it will be still be in A+ shape in 10 or 20 years.. For others certainly there will be a different story to tell.

Why do we still have Word Association? It has repeated 100 times and is wasting space, I love my RX-8 Squid!
I was looking for small problems, not the ones that are always talked about.......oh ya I hate the trunk release button.

i would rather have a bigger gas tank to get 300miles to the tank ,if 50/50 weight is the reason for the smaller tank then how often are we at 50/50?

Wow, some of you guys are so sensitive. The car is great, I love it, and it was a HUUUGE purchase for me. That doesn't mean I have to stick my head in the sand and pretend there's no problems or dislikes.

1) Very very short range vehicle. Blah gas mileage and a smallish tank means 250 miles is decent range on this car...

2) Easily scuffed interior (dash, display, center console, door sills, etc)

3) Very poor Bose system, imo. Agile, but lacking punch considering the price.

4) Low headroom with moonroof

5) Very low to non-existent low-end torque means a lot of gas up front and feathering the clutch to get a smooth start. Gunning it requires real aggression with a stiff foot and high rpms since there's no torque to muscle you from a stop.

EDIT:
6) Oh yeah, and poor visibility. If you adjust your mirrors out wide, you can totally negate blindspots. However, if you're accustomed to turning your head to verify it's clear, you'll find you're staring at interior material.

gas mileage
blind spots

but the advantages far outweight any downfalls, which is why I bought one over any other car in the 30-40k price range.

Yeah blind spots are annoying, but only in comparison to other non-sports cars. Jump in a Crossfire to see what I mean.

For me? I dont know, low MPG is kind of a bummer, but nothing that I do not get over every time I drive my 8.

First let me preface by saying that I absolutely love this car. It is by far and away the best car I have ever owned.
For the people that don't like this thread then don't view it. You sound like the same people that try to censor tv/radio instead of just changing the station/channel. If you don't like it, turn the channel. Or, in the case of this thread, hit the BACK button. Don't come into this thread and complain.

Anyway, what I don't like about this awesome piece of machinery is...

The sun visors suck. I thought they were supposed to keep the sun out so why on earch are there holes in them???

The door sill trim which was mentioned a few posts ago is also coming loose on my car.

The rear diffuser is not a rear diffuser.

The BOSE system is horrible. I actually had a loaner RX8 while I was getting the leather put into my RX8 and the loaner car did not have the BOSE system but it sounded SOOOOO much better than my car with the BOSE system. I am not exaggerating. If you have a choice, I highly recommend you save your money and get the non-BOSE system. The non-BOSE system has the ability to adjust the mid-range where the BOSE does not.
About 10 years ago I sold audio equipment for Circuit City and our saying for BOSE was, "No highs, no lows, it's BOSE."
I'm sure it would sound much better with a sub but right now I usually just listen to the sweet music my Borla makes. :D

I don't think it's lamination. The sills were covered with a plastic film for protection, but it's supposed to be removed as part of delivery prep - that's why it "bubbles" up so easily.

I love the sun visors, myself - it's a clever bit of design. If I'm driving into the sun and need to see a traffic light, I can angle it so the sun doesn't blind me but I can still see the signal change.

As far as things I don't like, there aren't many, and they're very nitpicky and personal. I don't like the position of the cupholders. Fortunately, I don't drink anything in the car. The sliding cover over the cupholders is gonna break one day. I wish it had an antigravity drive so I could fly over traffic jams.

Actually I think this car was wonderfully thought out before it was released. Think of all that can go wrong with a car and the best example of poor engineering so far is about plastic bubbling.

I love my purchase for sure.

The things that bug me are pretty silly.

1. The trunk release button is hard to get at.
2. Hand break looks like ejection seat handle, unfamilar passenger may want to pull on it without knowing.
3. Passenger playing with my radio gets in the way of shifting.

Oh yeah, and the dip stick, which is very difficult to get at, considering how often i have to check it.

But even finding this out after my purchase, I'm not disatisfied.

The worst thing about the RX-8? Well I'd have to say it is people who post questions with not one, not two, but eight question marks.

One thing I don't like is the power mirrors. I wish they could just be positioned outward a bit more to the blind spots. I have always made my side mirrors look directly at the blind spots....pointless to have them look back any further. I am hoping the MS non-powered mirrors can point out more than the stock ones, that will give me the incentive to get them. :D

regarding blind spots. I use a lane changer add on rearview mirror I used from my old car.

works like a charm, and I dont have to turn my head.

My one and only gripe is the soft leather on the steering wheel. It feels great to hold on to while driving, but I have a couple of scratches on it from getting in and out of the car.

Well it is a RX-8, so it requires 8 question marks!!!!!!!!
The oil dip stick is a bitch.....good call.

Mazda is looking at this post (on good authority) so speak up and the next RX-8 may be even better.

Am I the only one who doesn't have prolems getting to the dipstick, even with the engine cover on? I think I'll have to post a thread on that...

Biggest gripe for me is the gas mileage. Yes I knew it going in and accept it. However it is unfortunate that the mileage is worse than vehicles that are much larger or have much more power. Even more so given the initial hype over the Renesis powerplant. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

I do love the car though.
