What is a "shinka" vs. a GT version?

Hi folks,

For the life of me, I can't get the mazda site to work, and when it does, completely intermittent.

What is the difference between the Shinka version and the GT, and the other versions of this car?

I have a lease right now on an Audi A6 Twin Turbo (about a 4000 lb car, but the car is chipped to about 340 HP, 360 torque).

I haven't driven one of the RX8's yet, but love the look of the car. I have two small kids, one 5 and the other 3 (or 6 and 4 when my lease ends). I could buy a used corvette (C5), but I like the RX8 as there's none in northern california.

Have you guys raced anything in a straight line? I love going fast on onramps, and love my twin turbo. Just wondering if this will compare at all to my current 4000 lb "speed boat."

Thx,

Stieger

It won't be as fast, remember, the Rx-8 is more of a Auto cross style car, 50/50 weight distro, so you will be able to take turns really awesome, but you won't be faster than your twin turbo A6 on ramps, this isnt a straight line car, this is a turning car, and thats why we all love it.

Shinka is a "limited edition" model of the Rx-8 which comes in only one color (as seen in the link here), you can read all about it here:
http://www.autointell-news.com/News-...b-09-05-p3.htm

Grand Touring is the ultimate package for the rx-8 (leather/navi/power seats/etc..)

You def dont want this car if your looking for a straight line speed. This car is very balance and very smooth to drive but in all means not a straight speed car. Trying searching and you'll find all the answers.

This link may help you answer your questions about the shinka

If straight speed is all your looking for then you may need to look somewhere else. But the RX8 pretty much will have the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile time as a 05 A6 4.2L. In the corner now is a totally different story. The RX8 will whip the A6's ***(excuse my language) in that category.

What year is your A6 by the way? Alot of them weren't Turbo Charged. But if you have an A6 for 40-50K, that leaves you with plenty of money left over. Add that to the 8's straight line and you'll be whipping everyone's A$$. :D

I believe he has the 2.7L Twin Turbo V6 engine, not the 4.2L V8 version. Those were not turboed.

The Shinkais a special version of the RX8, includes better/softer leather, chrome accents, chrome rims, etc. Considered one level above the Grand Touring level.

I just bought a Shinka last week after a few months research. The Shinka comes "standard" with the GT package plus a few extras: Unique exterior and interior colors, slight suspension changes and 6 CD in dash. Options are limited to exterior appearance changes mostly (spoiler, air dams, etc.)

If you like the colors, go Shinka (I didn't want black leather). If you don't like it, take a GT package in a color you do.

I have 4 kids (13 to 5) and they think the car ROCKS! Having the back seat was a must.

Stieger, in addition to my RX8, I have an '02 Audi S6, I often drive both in the same day. The differences between the cars is all about chassis feel as opposed to raw power. The S6/A6 is simply numb compared to the Rx8 and unless i have a long distance to drive or more stuff (people) than the RX8 can hold, I always take the RX8. They are simply at opposite ends of the spectum in terms of feel. The S6 is a great car in its own right, but a great car for a heavy car. On the other hand if your priority is acceleration, than maybe a GTO or 350Z would be a better fit.

I think that it happens to do something about the SIRIUS Satellite radio that comes with the Shinka Package.

Anybody who has the Navi package: where does the GPS sensor go?

On the satellite package, the reciever goes on the center back edge of the trunk lid.

nah, don't. you've got a better looking interior color (i really like the parchment leather), a kick *** exterior color (both of which are exclusive to the shinka), improved suspension, and from what i hear, the nav isn't all that its cracked up to be. out of date, and rather expensive to get the updates. i think i saw somplace that it was around $200/update disc.

I heard about the lack of updates from my salesperson. Personally, I just take along the laptop with Streets & Trips /GPS, set it up between the back seats, and when I want to take a look, I just tilt the rear view mirror down. I just have to remember that everything is backwards, but you get used to it after awhile.

Personally, I *love* the Shinka version, and have been very happy with it. If you want something unique in what is already a very unique car, go with the Shinka, you won't be disappointed.

And for you naysayers who don't see the value in spending a little extra, well, that's probably why you don't have one. (ducking)

i would have loved to have gotten a shinka, but it was more than i could really afford. i love the black cherry mica. but i don't have any regrets. i love my black sport 8, which the dealership had listed as onyx.

OH thats the limited edition Onyrx8. Congrats on a one of a kind car :D

My Shinka was listed on all the paperwork as red...

Does the lack of Navi have something to do with the center speaker? Just a thought. It could also be that Mazda was being cheap and didn't include it because they didn't have to.

i have navi and the GPS sensor is not visible on the car. Its not in the cabin or on the outside. I hear its underneath one of the rear quarterpanels.

Best reason I've heard yet... :p

It's all about exclusivity and the way it handles.

After reading my post, and reflecting on it for a little while, I feel that I owe the people here in this forum an appology.

I do not condon a condescending attitude, nor should I demonstrate one either. That certainly was not my intent.

If I did offend anybody, you have my sincerest appologies.

Having said that, on with the show! And I hope that stieger (the OP) feels that heir question has been answered.

shinka already have light components like the clutch etc, body, its just less weight than the regular GT and you get a gay color with it.

Hmmm where to start...

The color is a personal choice so I won't comment on the "gay" remark.

As far as it weighing less, that isn't a "feature" of the Shinka. Everything I have found does not indicate that it weighs less than the GT version. In fact I would suspect that it weighs slightly more do to the fact that it is a step up from the Grand Touring package. It has extra features that would add weight. (foam filled cross members.) It may not be a lot of weight, but that would be more than the GT.
The body, clutch, drivetrain etc are all the same.
