What Sealed the Deal When Buying Your 8?
I looked at the Evo IX and the 350z but the insurance was borderline insane...
The dealers were real donkey butts to say the least. After test driving the 8 I realized nothing really felt the same. The others looked boring and the interior was lacking.

The test drive. I was out at lunch with a friend from work when we went into the dealership for a look. The salesman was busy and said "here are the keys, just don't get a ticket." He let us drive off by ourselves! We both drove the wee out of that car. I was hooked. When I got back to work, I called my wife. "Honey, I just looked at a car. What kind? ... oh just a 4 door Mazda."
After that all I needed to do was pick a color.

The test drive - everything just felt right - quick, light and maneuverable, yet solid.
Biggest issue is the crappy mpg...but w/e picking up my low mile RX8 this weekend.

or even bdubs for that matter... considered a few bmw models and just realized its no longer a car that turns heads, its not a mark of "success" like it used to be. there is someone that works at McDs in my hometown that drives one, that should be a sign...

Before knowing a thing about the RX-8, I drove an Evo. And went back and drove it again. And... again.
But I just couldn't see myself taking it home. Amazingly fun for a joy ride around the block, but... owning one? Commuting every day?
It just wasn't "me."
Not long after, I took an RX-8 for a test drive on pure whim, just "to see what a rotary is like."
100' down the highway I started laughing... I was sold. I KNEW I'd found my perfect car. Light, graceful in how it moved, agile... sounded great without being obnoxious.

Looked at the WRX Sti, Integra, and Z. The 8 fit like a glove, had great looks, and handled better than the others with more comfort. I wanted an RX-7 way back when but could never afford one. My 4-year lease is up in 3 months, and the only competition is the Audi TTS and R8, neither one of which I can afford.

All these different types of comments... 99% of rx8 driver out there not talking on rx8club, don't give a hoot about Mazda, don't give a hoot about rotary. They just wanted something looks different, and that's the whole deal. You know it, I know it, we all know it. I did it the same way, and by chance just got turned crazy.
The most cross-shopped vehicle along rx8 is Mazda3 hatchback. Think about that for some time.
I think there is a post here "When did you see your first rx8" or something like that. I recommend that read for you.

RX8 & RX7 owner
I WANTED SOMETHINGE NEW...AND JDM....TRUE JDM.....I HATE 4 DOORS (EVO, SUBY) AND CONVERTIBLES (S2K)..... I THOUGH HAVE SEEN A CHOPPED EVO LIKE 2 YEARS AGO TO WHERE IT WAS ONLY 2 DOORS. N E WAYS I TEST DROVE THE 350Z OH MAN... YEAH STRAIGHT HAD SOME *****, HANDLING A BIT SHAKY DIDNT FEEL IT. DASH WAS PLAIN.... 2 SEATER.. NO HARD TOP CONV AT TIME...WASNT DIGGIN THE CHEAP AERODYNAMICS.... WELL IM GOING TO MAKE A LIST WHAT MADE ME BUY ONE...WAS THE AERODYNAMICS...LIKE THE ENZO RIDICULOUS....THENIS CAME THE HANDLING. OH MAN... DID THIS THING GRAB CORNERS AND SHOOT OUT OF THEM!!! ESPECIALLY THE LSD IN IT!!!! MINE IS FULLY LOADED. IF U KNOW THE RX8 BEATS THE 350 Z ON A CIRCUIT TIME CUZ IT DOES BETTER ON APEX'S, N E WHO U SEEN THE SEATS AND INTERIOR OF AN 8? THEY SPENT AS MUCH OUTSIDE AS THEY DID INSIDE DESIGNING THIS CAR!!! THEY COULD HAVE HOWEVER ADDDED A TURBO...........50/50 WEGHT DIST., 2 DOOR (4 SUIC.), TRUST ME U CAN MAKE ANY CAR FAST BUT NEVER TO LOOK AS GOOD AS THE BODY STYLING ON AN 8! yoU CAN ALWAYS DO A 3 ROTOR SWAP, PLUS MY COLOR IS RARE AND NOT MADE NO MORE AND THE BODY STYLING HAS CHANGD SO IM HAPPY

I wanted something different, that hardly anyone else has. This was it for sure. The rotary just purrs and I love all the attention it gets.
^Pretty much it...
The thing that really made the difference for the one i did buy was when I was on my test drive, I was in an area I had no clue where to go and actually got lost, then I remembered I had navigation and pretty much set me straight. AND the warranty still have a year and a half left!
