What is the Really deally about the RX

Hello RX'ers, I have a question for you guys and I hope I can get a straight answer because this really will come down to whether or not I buy the RX-8. I've read alot of reviews about the wonderful, some good and some bad. When the review is good it's awesome, but when the review is bad they really drag the RX-8 in the dirt. Now I just want to know what the deal is with the car? What's it's nicks and nacks? What should I expect and what is it that the ones that say it's good doing different from the ones that say it is bad? I just don't want to put money into something without knowing the real deal. Hook me up with an answer someone, plllleeeeaaaasssseeee!! Thanks.

There's really too much to talk about in saying if the car is good or not. These forums are filled with information, just click a few links and you will learn everything you need to know.

Bottom line...I have NEVER seen a review from any reliable source that "drags the RX-8 in the dirt." It has gotten nothing but praise, and has won nearly every comparison test it was in. It was put up against mustangs, S2K, 350Z, G35, etc etc etc....The only comparison I've ever seen it lose was against the 2005 mustang, but the article was filled with misinformation anyway.

The only place the RX-8 gets dogged on is in message boards. This is where adolescent ricers come to breed their ricer ambitions and pat eachother on the back about their FWD crapmobiles.

Bottom line is that people in the know praise the car. Ignorant ricers are the ones spreading misinformation about it.

I have no complaints, but the usual ones I hear about are low torque and low mpg. I've driven S2K's, and nobody complains about their low torque and their powerband is near identical to the RX-8.

In the end, you should just do your research and buy what you want regardless of what other people say.

Read the NHTSA HP for complaints on the 2004 RX8, there are only 30.
The 8 has its problems, just because it is new everyone tends to jump on every little thing.
Most of the 'problems' have been sorted, or are near to being sorted. The 8 is a mechanically reliable car, no doubt. You have to be a proactive owner though, you have to understand that the engine is different, it acts differently, and requires different maintenance than a reciprocal engine. Also, the 8 is not a full-on sportster, but it is a helluva lotta fun to drive!

If you buy the car with the right expectations, I'm sure you will be satisfied.

There's TONS of information on this forum that would probably answer your questions a lot better than one or two posts could answer. Here's a couple links to get you started:
