Anyone know if the HVAC controls from the 2009 series II cars will fit in the 2008 series I? I was also wondering about the tail lights.

the controls may fit, but won't communicate with the rest of the system. 03-08 controls operate on SPI bus, 09+ operates on CAN

 

i've looked though the parts catalogs and there are basically 4 different HVAC systems.

the S1 has a manual and full auto system, and the S2 has a manual and full auto system.

the S1 and S2 systems are different enough that the S2 wont work in an S1.

i have just purchased a full auto S1 system and there are a bunch of things you need to get, the controls, amp, there are two sensors, the blower resistor. additionally its not plug and play, so there is some small wiring that needs to be done, i don't have my notes in front of me, but the sensor wires aren't in the US harness.

so it looks like the dash needs to come out, which i'm sure will be fun. once i get the stuff i'll make a thread

 

Tail lights will not fit flush, there was a minor change to the bumper along the headlight area thats barely noticeable.
