Question What model/year etc...

Alright, I might be creating a thread that is not needed. I have searched but I keep reading so many different specs. Anyways I ship out in two weeks to Paris, Island for boot camp. I will be there for 3 months. So in 3 months I would like to start looking for a car; depending on the time I have before MCT and A school. I am very mechanically inclined, although this would be my first rotary. (gotta start somewhere). I want a Rx8 more then anything. There is no doubt in my mind. Okay, to the point; I have read certain years come with 197hp, 212hp and 232hp, I have also heard that it is the model that determines the hp it has. Please try to clarify this for me. I am planning on getting something between the years of 06-08 completely stock, 6spd etc. I want the 232hp to start, what model/year is that.

I do plan on modding, slightly at first. After a few years, warranty is up, and towards end of my term, I would like to turbo. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

Any model year will have the same power, (230ish) it doesn't change. The automatic came with a lower power motor until 2008, if I recall right.

The low-power manual wasn't sold in the States.

Edmund's says that the 2008 auto still has only 212HP and also has the 7,500rpm cut-off.

Just saying.

As long as the 06-08 Rx8 6 speed is what has the 232hp I am happy.

-Andy

**And even the 2009 Auto comes with only 212hp.

I thought they changed over from 4 port to 6 in 06 for the autos. IIRC, it was <200 for 03/04 to 05, then after that it has been 212 for the autos (to current model).

That's because the government change the standard for measuring HP.

Same motor just new measuring standard lowered the out put.

Same affect for most cars on the road unless the manufacturer modified the motor for 2008.

2008 auto has 212hp because of 2 reasons

1. automatic transmissions have more drivetrain loss. nothing you can do.
2. redline @ 7500. raise it to 9500 and get back a lot of that hp.

have fun at boot camp i was there 23 years ago.... but seriously dont buy a car until you are thru training and are with your first unit. at least nothing good. just buy a used beater for a couple grand until you get settled somewhere.
