Yup, there is no way for anybody to know that they don't indeed own an RX-8 and haven't had an engine failure, sadly. I'd hope someone wouldn't come in to sabotage this poll. One thing that could kind of help is to make the poll public so people could go through and check and see who voted for what. "Hmm, this guy has never posted, just registered today...and is voting for his engine failure. Strange..."

Now, I don't feel the need to keep this bickering in a public thread. If you feel the need to take more silly jabs at my reading comprehension or something, I'm all for it through PMs.

I agree the bickering is old. So stop arguing with me about something that I did not say okay?

Seriously, if you want to keep it up, PM me, quit bitching in a public thread. So much for your superior reading comprehension...

Maybe we need a separate poll for those that have gone through multiple replacements?

05, MT, 40788 miles, Original Engine, Pulls strong as hell.

Can I vote ? :)

Raptor75 04-30-2008 09:29 AM

...and why in heavens name would anyone want to do this, so they can smug the good name of the RX? So they can corner the market for used RX-8, to elevate the name of a blood enemy nemesis of the 8. It is possible to corrupt the results as a matter of fact any system can be corrupted, it all depends on how badly they want to. Which brings us back to the real question who would care enough to do so. I really wish you'd stop grasping at strews in an misguided attempt to prove there is no problem and help be part of the solution.

Wish I know about the public poll option before I set this up. Is there a way to change it? I can seem to get any control over the poll at this point. Again maybe a mod can help me out here. Live and learn.

Mods don't have the rights to change the poll. Maybe Admins do. PM one.
Here's what we could do. Close this thread, but don't delete it. The final post would state that a new thread would be opened in a week for a new poll. If you want assistance with this, PM me.

CyberPitz 04-30-2008 10:25 AM

Yeah, once you make the poll, it's out of your hands. I believe the admins can change specific parts, but like alneilsen said, the easiest would probably request a close, and remake with the new parameters.

And shoafb has a good point. Maybe make an option *or a new thread as suggested* for multiple engine replacements.

Maybe even add a box for folks who have not had thier engine replaced? That way you guys are represented as well. Which poll to put that on is the question though?

It looks like this poll is full up, so when/if it's remade we will need a second poll for multiple replacements/not replaced yet. Or we could remove the last mileage for both year sections so we can have two extra slots to input multiple replacements/none.

I guess that Raptor will figure this all out when the time comes, haha.

Raptor75 04-30-2008 02:15 PM

Ya, we just don't have the room here to capture all we really need. Beside what you guys mentioned it would be valuable to know where the cars are driven - Hot, Cold climate; dry or humid etc...) I'd also like to know the break down between AT and MT. Anything else you guys can think of?

What do you think of me putting out a survey form which I could tabulate into and excel sheet and post every few days. We could get all the answers we need this why but it would be more work for the people to fill out. Let me know your thoughts here, I am leaning towards doing it.

cmr333 04-30-2008 02:43 PM

that sounds like a good idea. from what ive seen climate , auto- manual, driving style and all that comes into play...

That would be great. It should rule out any fraud as well. Maybe we can get the survey form posted as a sticky and folks could fill it out and send it in as needed?

Yes, but consider them votes for the guys that can't vote more than once and have been through a few engines ;)

Lilring, where would you like me to place my vote?

Where is the option. Has not happened.

Raptor75 05-02-2008 11:12 AM

I will be posting a more comprehensive data form this weekend and will keep a graph updated at the top of the thread.

I'm a little lost at the point of this thread. Aside from creating paranoia amongst current owners and prospective owners - where in this is a solution?

So let's say the data (use that term loosely) reflects engines are going in the neighborhood of 55K...then what?

Should every owner hit the panic button at 55K?

Should every owner start saving their pennies now for a blown engine that may never come?

Should every owner trade their car in at 54K even though it never had any issues?

The list of paranoid questions can never end...

So what is the constructive solution???

cmr333 05-02-2008 11:39 AM

lol sr20's v8's and 3 rotors

delhi 05-02-2008 12:41 PM

without correlation to the denominator (total sum of cars), this poll is about as useful as someon stating there are 231 bad Apples in the town of Nantucket. mmmkay.....
Not to mention sadly raptor is one of the "members" that has an agenda when based off his previous insidious posts.
I remembered seeing someone by the name of Truedelta that was collecting car stats too.

Shoafb 05-02-2008 01:03 PM

Well the point, at least to me, is that if you have enough engines going south that you can create a poll and get this many results then you likely have a problem. That is not to say every 8 is going to go out and you need to be paranoid every time you think you hear an odd sound or the thing sputters but at the same time we shouldn't keep our heads in the sand and deny anything is wrong. Since we are not going to get the numbers from Mazda, this is as close as we can come to seeing how much of a problem it might be.
