Like a slipping transmission.

Usually it's hard to get into gear.

When you hit the gas, and you see the tach rising a little faster than you would expect, but the car isn't accelerating like it should.

Ok, thanks. What does it mean then when I shift into second and as I release the clutch it kind of shudders as I am applying the gas? Is it normal? It does not happen in any other gears.

Drive up a hill in a lower gear than you might usually use. Jab the clutch and note what happens to the rpm.

If the clutch is OK, the rpm will come right back to where it was. If it's slipping, it won't or (if it's just starting to slip) it will take a few seconds to come back.

If it feels like a slipping transmission (like Razz1 says) in normal driving, it's pretty close to blowing.

It's kind of like when you feather the clutch yourself.

as others have said, it's very similar to feathering the clucth. by definition of what a clutch is, its a means at which 2 rotating surfaces come togehter. As you might imagine, this means that there isn't a connection between the 2. The car will feel like it's responding to the gas, but not very strongly, if any. Depending on the degree of wear, it can vary from starting to simply slip on occasion of intial engagement to almost seeming like your not even in gear. When it gets bad enough...you'll be in gear, and the RPM's are gonna rev like yur in neutral.

It's pretty hard to miss when you mash on the gas and then suddenly the clutch breaks away and the RPMS run way up without a huge gain in speed.

I had my clutch go out on me after 6K miles lol...that was fun...I was parked at a steep hill with tons of traffic behind me...tried to rev to 3k to get enough go power...slapped it in gear car just revved and I rolled back.....embarrasing... =)

I think this is normal. I have found (and other on this borad I believe) that the revs take a little longer to fall down to where they should be for second gear, so that when you engage the clutch, the RPMs are a little too high and it gives you a little shudder. Try holding the clutch in a little longer and making sure the RPMs drop to the right speed (around 1k less than where you were at), that works for me.
