What do you guys think?
I live in Canada and was thinking about purchasing the 2009 r3 rx8. I will be mostly using this car for daily driving as well as driving for "fun" (mostly daily driving). However, my friend suggested that for the same price I should get the Evo GSR.
At first I told him that I didn't need that much performance and that the Rx8 would be more practical for daily driving however he did say some pretty good points.
Evo
- more fuel efficient
- more space
- better performance
Rx8
- omg sexy
- rotary
- better quality interior
What do you guys think?
I kind of still want to get the rx8 but I am not sure anymore...
Thanks in advance

You should buy what you want not what your friend wants, if you think the rx8 is sexy then why the hell would you get the evo over it? Its like picking a girl you think is ok looking when you can have the more attractive sister, you think the sister is hot then go after her and let your friend have the ugly one if he wants it. Sure the evo has its ups but when you call a car sexy then I think you made your mind up, live your own life and make your own choices....then again I work for mazda so I sorta have to say go with the rx8 :p

Plus remember, the Evo is a suped up economy car. The RX8 is a pure-bred sports car. I like the EVO but it is over-weight and many reviewers complain about the lack of communication with the road (as is starting to become a complaint about a lot of newer performance cars).....
If you need more practicality, which most of us do, go Evo. If you want sexy and connection to the road, R3 no question.
But think on this: If you're also looking for some bragging rights and something to talk about, no other sports car shares the 8's chassis or has a rotary engine. Lots of cars have turboed 2 liters, including my GTI.

The EVO is a one-trick-pony, it is a Lancer with a boosted motor, an economy car with all the economy taken out of it.
Is there any conceivable possibility you would even consider a Lancer without that souped up engine?......No.
The RX-8 works on ALL levels - has four seats, four doors, classic looks, incomparable interior and a smooth unique motor. The only reason to falter would be the price and running costs, but then the EVO wouldn't be on your list either.....
A good comparison I've heard is "you can stick a candle in a pile of dogshit and call it a birthday cake, and sure it's a nice big candle, but I prefer real cake."
(No offense meant to those who have already made the EVO purchase mistake.)
That's what I think......

Well I like both cars. If you think that you will be ok with the performance the RX8 gives you then go ahead and buy it. If you like having more power then dont. The EVO will give you that power.
I do agree that the EVO is an economy car with a boosted motor but it is a very nice car and drives wonderfully too. Maybe not as smooth and easy to toss around as the RX8 but it is a very nice car.
When I bought my RX8 I thought I would be happy with its performance but then I learned that I wasnt happy at all. So I went the turbocharging route, wich has been a painstaking long process and I am still not done with it. If I had known that I wanted more power I would have bought something else, probably an EVO.
Just make sure you get what you want.
The RX8 is a better looking car and a real sports car in terms of handling and tossability but the EVO has very nice handling too and will smoke an RX8 without breaking a sweat.
Buy what is right for you, and what you want a car to be.

Tell your friend you intend to get teh EVO as a winter beater.
Driving an RX8 in the winter is just not nice to the RX8. Yep, you CAN drive it in the winter but yes you CAN use your face to pound nails. Is it wise? Is it recommended? Only you can decide how best to pound nails.
Snow tires for an RX8 (new) will cost you as much as a beater. I just put $1k into a `92 ford ranger 4x4 and i love the damn thing. Why? No more salt on my RX8 for one. No risk of some fuktard losing control of their vehicle because they cant drive in inclimate weather worth a damn. $1k ona beater is roughly the same you will pay for decent snow tires for an 8 (new).
Bottom line: See nail reference. The 8 is worth every cent. And every cent is worth investing a few more into a winter / bad weather beater.
