Question What do you call the side-pocket thing?

This is just a trivial general motoring question since most cars have it, but it's on my 8 so I thought I'd post it here.

What do you call those side slots on the two front doors(one on each side)? Those pocket-like things formed on the lower half of the door in the sides of the cabin a little below the handle. This may seem really trivial but it's really bugging me as to what technical names its been given.

e.g.:

(ignore the orange cat)

thanks!

It's actually called a "Map Pocket" on most cars that have it,

But I like the "Lower 'Oh ****' Bar" as stated above. I think I'll start calling it that.

Yup, and stupidest thread ever goes to one of the thousands of entries under "Syn oil/ Dino Oil for Rx8? ". If this weren't a virtual chat room, people would get really beaten to death much like that dead horse has been beaten.

It has always been called a map pocket in my experience no matter what car I've owned, and the ones in the RX8 fit road maps from our auto club perfectly so that's what I'm going with.

I put my sunglasses in it because they are too deep to fit in the overhead sunglasses holder. But I like "Oh ****" handles better.

funny you mention that...
my shades dont fit up there either......

I think Mazda made that to hold Bitch Shades.
jp, its made for like granny glasses or something.

i personally keep my shades in the cup holders. One lense on each side of the cup holders.
I dont like cups there while I drive.

but yeah, I suppose the map pocket would be a good place for them also.

The sunglass holder is pretty much useless for sport glasses.

This thread is *hardly* the stupidest thread ever, there have been many more far worse. Just one that springs to mind: "Why this car is no fun anymore".

Oh, that's a cat in Asia. Due to the angle of the sun, everything in Asia looks like that. Haven't you ever seen anime?

A Magazine rack holder.

It's a great place for them. I just reach down and whip it out and start reading when I'm in traffic.

It's as good as a cell phone.
