Did the first oil change on the CX today... Was going to swap the wheels for both cars to see how they look. Does this count?

Changed the oil today. Used Castrol 10w-40 and a PureOne filter, next change due at 119,266. I changed from 5w-30 to 10w-40 because it gets 95+ most days during the summer and sometimes 100+, so the extra protection can't hurt. May drain my coolant again and replace with distilled water + water wetter for even more protection, but I just did a flush and fill like 2 months ago so I can't decide.

fyi be aware not to run aggressive dwell settings on the 514a's as they do not have a heatsink built on, so they will get mighty hot.
|
:Peace::yesnod:Shortened my cold air intake, building a shroud around the acorn filter to except colder air from out side and to install the fitting for my flex tube cold air feed.

My 8 today
put on new liscence plates and am thinking about K&N or OEM air filtration.MY;)
|
painted a rim

research the k&N. I don't think the oil in the filter is a great idea. In any case don't forget to replace those 2 screens in your stock tube and use on your custom rig or you might pull a cel. Most after market cold air rigs don't have the screens in them and they usually pull a cel due to turbulent air reading on the MAF.. I built my own cold ar rig and installed the screens and I have never had a cel from my home made rig:). Just FYI.

Cleaned the wheels and drove it to work. Picking up the new shift boot tomorrow!

Painted a rim

Looked at it with snow on it at 4:30 am.
Thought about driving it to work. Didn't. Came home, 36°, cold rain. Thought about driving it to get takeout. Didn't. Mother Nature is bringing me down. |
Bought it

Details! |
2009 GT 6speed in sparkling black mica, 27 000mi
I got the news today that my credit was accepted (is that how you say this?) so I am waiting for delivery now !. I don't have any pictures right now and they took the car off the autotrader website so I can't show it off to anyone or even look at it while I wait ... but I'll post pictures once I receive it. I would drive to the dealer and take some if it wasn't 40 miles away and on the other shore of the island (Montreal) I'm super excited but it was also quite an intimidating experience because it was a very serious decision to take. It is my third car but my first car was given to me by my brother (91 accord) and I bought my second car (2001 accord) from a friend of my dad so it was an easy purchase. This time took a lot of reading (this board, mainly) and prep work to make sure I was not getting shafted. I have loved my 2001 accord a lot. I almost died twice in this car and it's been a tank for years but now, at 300 000kms, it's getting tired and it's annoying me a lot. Going through an axle (driver side) every 6 months gets old pretty quickly. I'm sure the accord realized it was going to get replaced soon. It shakes a lot these days, hesitates during acceleration and last night, just when I was leaving to go sign the rx8 papers, it took three times longer than usual to start and there has been a strong fuel smell ever since haha Glad to be part of the group now ! |
Oh man, sounds nice!
How good is it to go from a beater to an 8? Sounds like your Honda is going to self-immolate in protest. Better not park too close to any structures. Where are you? Oh, Canada eh? |
I wouldn't quite say beater. The accord was loved and kept in great condition. However the canadian winter and the @$%@$%?&@$? salt they use on the road just make it impossible to keep a car over 10 years without it drastically deteriorating.
See this post on another board to understand how brutal to cars our winters are bit-tech.net Forums - View Single Post - Motors What do you drive? - The Photo Gallery I do not want to expose the RX8 to that so I will be fixing a few things on the accord and I'll use it as a winter car. I bought a brand new set of continental extreme winter contact a few months ago and they do an amazing job, even on a lowered car. Cant wait to drive the 8 again and show it off to friends. This is always the best part haha  EDIT: named the wrong tire. |
Welcome Knuck.. Im wishing you Good Luck..and Hopin You own some Basic Tools and alittle bit more then Basic Knowledge about Cars and Fluids.. This car is NOT a Honda and needs Constant attention to Oil etc.. Wash Rinse Wax Repeat :) Have a Good Day Eh :)
|
Don't worry I did my homeworks. I read all the potential and new owner threads and I searched a lot on the net (and often ended up here again anyway). I (my dad) own basically everything anyone would ever need to work on a car so I should be fine. I won't have anything to do on the car for a long time, though (except the BHR coils, which I am expecting to buy before the end of summer)
Oh and ... Thanks ! |
Took it out for a nice drive, detailed it, then noticed how it started to get vibration at idle again....I just replaced the engine mounts about 3 weeks ago!

rims painted, greased up, cleaned up, ganadors on, new tires, ready for summer!

Washed and repaired a few minor chips (tiny but i saw them right before i started waxing so I decided to repair today and wax tomorrow) using Lanka kit. Installed my appradio2 (gashed on the center console so now I have to repair that) and then drove her hard for about an hour. Throw in a little oil, gas her up and tucked her into the garage gently.
