I'm remembering my brother's '87 RX7 GXL (Tornado Silver over red interior) I remembered sometimes that when the engine would first crank, there was this rush of...well sounded like air throughout the engine. It was a really neat sound and I loved to hear it. It sounded like a ......whoooooooo sound. It would also make that sound as we were driving (but not all the time). My '83 12A made that sound upon startup also, but not while driving. Does anyone know why the 12A and 13B made that sound?

The whooooooooo sound is probably the driver making the sound from the intense anxiety they get from the car.

 

Probably the engine fan. Sometimes on my 2nd gen RX-7 the fan would kick on at startup for a second or two.

 

Yup, my GTU clutch-fan does it every time I start it up and stops when the revs drop as the engine warms up.
