What is this?

Was looking around on the 2005 RX-8 (USA) website photo gallery and noticed something different on the instrument cluster.

What is it?

That's a funny picture to be on the USA website. That's a right-hand drive car. No clue what the 8 represents. The speedo is set to Kilometers though, so it might be a Jap spec.

Well, duh. But do you drive around with it like that? I'm just saying it's odd that they would have this on the American website.

Not to mention the fuel gauge and odo are reversed, as they are in the RHD Euro/JDM model.

same reason why the speedometer says 000 it's probable when the car is just turned on (or turned on the accesories) and all the lights come on.

Ahhh... makes sense... power-on-self-test routine.

Yes, you can -- it's in the owner's manual, p.5-30:
Press the speed unit selector [that's the button to the upper left of the tach/speedometer pod] for 2 second [sic] or more.

It's the volume level for the radio. It goes to 11 because that is one louder.
