Well I got the car back. Everything is running ok. Is there a way to see if the engine is newer. He gave me the reciept and work order stating a rebuilt engine, but I looked and it didnt really look any newer than the old one, though I know it wont be all shinny and what not, just wondering if there is a easy way to tell for sure if it really was replaced.
Also one thing it still does that it did before, when it is cold and I go from like 3rd to 4th the car will kind of burst into gear and shake a little, I read of someone else having this issue is it normal?

don't these engines have have serial numbers for tracking? My car has been at the Dealer for nearing 2 weeks, waiting for the engine to be shipped from the East Coast.
Sushi - what state are you in? I'm in Washington and there's a certificate that is passed with the replacement engine showing that it was installed with 'said miles' on the cert reflecting the car. This is mainly for emmissions reasons. I think cali is the same way.

I have flooded my engine before and needed it to be taken into the maz dealer and they replaced the battery, coils, and starter I believe. This was after I tried the same thing as you to start it over and over again, hearing just the cranking noise but no ignition from the engine.
Now, I've also had to get my engine replaced, but this was for a separate, and for the correct problem, I think. This had nothing to do with the ability to start the car, it had to do with the car's ability to idle enough to stay on and to be able to accelerate to the abilities of the engine. More than 5 times I had to push my car through a stoplight because the car would die occasionally when I was at a dead stop. Most of the time when I was coming to a dead stop, I was afraid that the car would shut off, so I would put it in neutral and rev the engine. End result when it did shut off = I was unable to turn it back on. Had to go into the same dealer 3 times to fix the problem only to happen again (every time, they replaced the battery, coils, and starter). Fourth time, I did some research and asked him to check compression. He did so and they replaced the engine. Didn't have my car most of the summer (May-July) while they were replacing the engine, but wow is the engine now a huge difference. Same mazda engine, just way better than I was used to with my fouled engine.
If you didn't have this acceleration/engine dying at idle speed I'm not sure if replacing the engine is the correct thing to do. Maybe he is right, and caught the issue early. From my experience, I believe that the problem I had got worse and worse over time. So that being that case, I'd say ultimately trust his judgment.
Whatever the case, good luck and hope your new engine works out for you.

Thanks man, so far so good, It handles nice and shifts smoothly. Only thing is when stopped in idle it vibrates alot from time to time, but it did this before the problems, is this common with this car?

You may need your motor mounts replaced, complain to dealer about vibration at idle.

2 below - drove 4 miles to work and as I pulled in the power steering failed - NO time to look
Came out on break to check the belts - then remembered - electric power steering - but the belts were good.
The car started right up - Power steering worked - although I thought the fast idle was a little faster than normal - like almost 4k then it settled down - short on time
shut it off and finished my shift
10 pm Sunday night - crank no start - got a ride home
Some place here I read a thread detailing how to start in this situation without pulling the plugs but I can not find it! [de-flooding procedure]???
Well the car is only 4 months old 2500 miles - Ill call the dealer this morning and beg forgiveness...

...........actually, my wife's car (2003 BMW 325i wagon).
I moved in from the driveway into the garage for shoveling purposes, and it was quite cold, and the car ran maybe 10 seconds. This morning it started but sounded like it was missing, then stalled right away. I cranked it again but it made an ugly grinding sound and did not fire. Waited another 30 seconds (wife jumping up and down and screaming at this point) still no startee. A burned chemical odor filled the garage. Waited another few minutes, then it finally started, throwing out a cloud of black smoke from the exhaust. It sounded rough for a few seconds, then ran fine.
On the way to work, I regaled my wife with tales of why a rotary is so reluctant to fire after being flooded, versus a piston engine.
Moral of the story: don't do with your 8 that which is a bad idea in any other car, and you'll be fine!

Just get a vehicle hooked up to you car so you don;t drain your battery and with the gas pedal floored, roll the starter over for 8 second with 20 second pause in between, do NOT take your foot off the gas pedal the entire time. Do this 7 times and on the 8th try lift your foot and it WILL start

I did not have a booster car so I did not crank to clear 7 times before lifting my foot and cranking
and Well I forgot I needed to crank clear 7 times
Crashed on the learning curve again! Dealer was not overbooked this morning - if I get a break here Ill call and check if they flat towed it in yet - if not Ill run out with my diesel - my cables - and do the dance!

On the Fourth crank cycle my 8 began to catch a bit and on the Seventh near the end of the 8 seconds crank it began to run - so I simply nursed it till clear and that was that. Its snowing - not hard to get a few hot engine red- lines to finish clearing it.
My zoomy is now back home in the garage with the battery charger on
Next - I just need to catch a ride back out there to get my Diesel before that turns to a stone!
