Synthetic oil? fine. i go with castrol gtx though. 10w-30. dont use that 5w-20 nonsense. too thin.

Typical gas mileage? 18-22.

Good place for body kit? an authorized mazdaspeed parts dealer at your mazda dealership. forum vendors are great. like autonrd

And finally, how fat of a tire can fit under this without rubbing? i've seen 18x10.5 i believe

The only way you will get respect from the stang's is to ask them to go to a road course with you. Drive an HPDE like NASA, Chin, BMW club to name a few and you will find that they will be your best buddies, will slap you on the back and will be pissed when you are always on their *** in the twisties and if there are no real long straights, they will be pointing you by. Just be sure they understand that you are driving a poor little 1.3 liter and you just can't understand how you passed that 5.0 between turn 3 & 4!

Forget drag racing! You will never get respect unless you go FI.

^^^Hmmm, so ur saying cars like the NSX, 335i, 135i, IS-F, Shelby GT500, Audi RS4, Evos, ect.. are all weenies???

Use ur head before posting. Fact is, all the cars mentioned above are fast, and they are all in the high 12, low 13 second range. These are just a few examples, there are MANY cars in that range that can hardly be considered "weenies" that would blow the doors off of 99% of the cars on the road. Get real.

My two prized possesions were a 65 mustang fastback all original with the k code hi-po 289, pony package interior and top loader 4-speed tranny, and a 2001 bullitt mustang. Those were my all time favorite cars. I just traded in a 2001 dodge 4x4 off road 1500 with a 360 sport on a 2004 rx8. I've always thought the rx8 looked bad ***. I work at a dodge dealership in clyde texas. Hence how i came across a 04 rx8 for 3 thousand dollars. Being always into domestic the only "import" that i have ever had was a 93 mazda protege lx. Had a lot of fun with that car and could take a stock civic with it. Put a fart can on it that was way too obnoxious and laughed at everyone that tried to race me. Mostly it was the retards that put a huge wing on a 82 civic and think it is the fastest thing in the world. Come to think of it I had a lot of the same ones trying to race me when I got my bullitt. Oh well. I'm a redneck at heart, but racing comes in right there too. Like I said I have this 04 rx8 and have no clue about rotaries. I can work on anything but them. I'm an ase certified mechanic but this thing makes me scratch my head. I guess what I'm trying to say is hi and what do I do and where do i go to make it look good and go fast with out spending 20 grand. That's like four months of paychecks. Not up for that. That much would buy me coors for the next seven months. I'm not looking for it to be that fastest thing out there but i want to be able to get respect from the mustang guys I hang out with. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
The same things that motivated you to buy your original stang and the bullitt motivated you to buy the RX-8. Engineering and Design. Those who appreciate that which is a little different appreciate the RX-8. You will find it lacking in the torque dept. compared to your domestic muscle, but until you go around a corner and the perfect 50/50 weight distribution makes you slide completely neutral you won't truly appreciate the engineering that goes into the 8.

Hey guys, nice job on the price, $8000-9000 sounds damn good to me. With regards to your performance, the July 2006 issue of Car and Driver had a story on the turbo package for the RX-8, I think it pushed the engine up to around 380 horses! I also think that it did 0-60 around the high 4 sec range, and the 1/4 around 13 secs, is that in your ball park?

For all the rest of us stockers, (I have the Car and Driver issue Sept 2005 in front of me), they were able to get 0-60 in 5.9 and the 1/4 in 14.6. That seems damn respectable to me, and like others have said, the RX will destroy just about anything when the roads actually have some action and curves in them, rather than just blasting away down the straight (and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with blasting down straights!). The thing that just GETS me about the RX is that it is a DRIVERS car, it is LIGHT, and as the weights go up, at some point, you just can NOT counter the physics of weight, no matter how big the tires are or how beefy the suspension. SO, I guess you could spend some more dough, and get your RX close to your friends, but, if you have to be where your friends are, then it sounds like you might have to look something with more muscle. good luck!

^ keep in mind it came into his dodge dealership he works at. theres a huge price drop to buy an inventory car from the lot you happen to work. they were probably going to sell it on the lot for 14-15k.

As far gas mileage, someone above posted 18-22. Maybe 1 out of 100 might get that... granny shifting and all highway driving. City driving, shifting normally... you'd be lucky to get 17.

Enjoy your 8. Leave the suspension alone. Add a turbo so it doesn't seem so slow. I have the luxury of a faster car sitting in the garage when I have a need for speed. The 8 is just there for twisties. I've managed to scare everyone I've taken out with only a few 90 degree turns doing 45 mph. That's when it gets respect.
apparently, your definition of fast is going in a straight line.

My definition of fast is balance.

Take that z06 with 125 shot and go on a track vs Turbo 8. see what sup.
