Well after 55k miles, problems.. :(

After 55k trouble free miles, I'm having problems. No CEL but, down on power and missing a little. And, today for the 1st time it just died on me twice when it went to idle. Of course I had no problems until after the warranty expired 2 months ago.
So, I'm going to start by putting new coils, plugs and wires in her and hope that's all she needs since she has never had new ones.. also, wonder if it's just bad gas.
I could turn the air off and it seemed to be a little better.

'04 Yellow,6speed. No mods at all.
Well, she does have a K/N drop in filter, that I have cleaned just a couple weeks ago.

Anyone have any other ideas, please pass them along...

Thanks,

Thanks,
Mazda has extended the warranty on your car to 5 years from the first purchase date or 60K miles which ever came first( when was it first purchased). Look at the first three "TSB's" and print out and take to your dealer.

I say new plugs, wires and a tune up should get you going. Are the plugs/wires the original ones?

Throttle body might have gone bad.

I had the same problems at 55k-60k. Ive replaced my cat, plugs, wires and Im runnin at full speed. I still havent changed the coils so I think thats whats causing the rough idle, or my CAI, one of the two

At 58,000+, mine was doing the same thing. I had relatively new coils, plugs wires and the MAF had been cleaned. I took it in and came out with a new engine. Not saying that will be the issue with yours. Could be that replacing the things mentioned above would take care of it but you should take her in for the latest TSB.

OP....Dont get yourself all twisting thinking you need a new engine. I do that **** to myself everytime I hear a wierd noise under my hood. You probably need an ignition tune up. Or just run a compression test. $100 is worth sleepin better at night right?

well, took it into the stealership today, They said it needed plugs, coils, wires and the injections system cleaned. I let them do an oil change, and the injection cleaning an the new flash. I bought the plugs, coils and wires to do myself. So, far after that it is running worse than ever, dies every time now. I'll see how it is after the tune up.

Change the plugs first. You're well beyond their specified life span. Your symptoms are consistent with worn out plugs on any car.

I'm not surprised that the injection cleaning didn't help. IMHO, that's a big moneymaker for a (usually) nonexistent problem.

You're still under 60K, why didn't you let them do it?

This interesting this is about the 5th thread I have seen recently talking about engine failure between 50K to 65K miles. Could this be the sweet spot for engine failures, it will be interesting to watch. Maybe I'll start a survey on this.

I'm thinking 50-65k is the sweet spot for coil failures.

I just found the letter I got from Mazda on the warranty being moved to 60/60000
how do I find out the "in service" date? I still think there is way more wrong that plugs. Thanks guys..

p.s I took a copy of both the re-flash and the other lack of power SB's and they barely looked at them. They did do the re-flash. But, did not see even hardly look at the other one. Guess, I'll be making another trip down to them after I change the plugs, coils and wires Friday. I really hope that is all it is.. the o'l girl has been amazing and not had any problems at all (knock on wood) hope this is not a sign of thing to come.
