Unhappy Weird noise/rattle

hi, i have a very weird noise which i think it came from the engine bay (on the right/passenger side). it sounds like coins rubbing each other or keys on a key chain. it only occurs when the engine bay is hot (after driving about 10-15 minutes). i'm wondering if you guys know where the noise might come from.

apparently i was wrong. it's from inside not from the engine bay. it's kind of stupid but i tried to blew hot air into the car, rattle's gone. glad, there's nothing wrong with the mechanical parts. still this sound is really annoying.

You mean that after you blew hot air into the car, it stopped doing the rattle?
What do you mean you blew hot air into the car? Where exactly? With what kind of tools?
I have an air blower, but tomorrow I will take it to the dealer to check it out, and I don't want to make it worst.
Give us more info!!!
If it fixed your problem, I will try it out too!

It is a MT. I don't think there are AT's here in Greece. The rattling noise in my car is something in the passenger side dashboard, that is loose, from the factory. Except someone put a coin in the a/c vents and he didn't tell me!

Tomorrow I will take it to the dealer. I hope they will resolve it.
I will keep you posted!

man, that is exactly what i got. i went to Kroger at 3 am in the morning. when put my stuff on my passenger seat through the right door, i tried to punch the dashboard from the right side, i could hear the rattle, now i'm certain it's from inside the dash board

You mean that after you blew hot air into the car, it stopped doing the rattle?
what i mean is i turned the a/c to HOT and turned the fan level to 3.
this rattle only occurs at certain temperature, when the ambient temperature is cold, it's perfectly fine. somehow it rattles only at around 15-26 degrees C.

Does it come at a certain RPM?
No, it rattles when i hit into a bump

Yes,it happens over 6K rpm. In a few hours, I hope the dealer will resolve it.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to go to the dealer this week. I will take it next week.
Meanwhile, I will try the a/c trick you did Kuzu, and see if it resolves this.
I hope it will and I won't have to go to the dealer.
The car is running perfectly. Very responsive on the gass pedal, and very fast!

Hi, I just wanna give you an update about my rattle. After spending for about 3 hours, I found out the rattle was coming from the plastic cover of the audio head unit and the audio unit holder, which is made of metal.
There is a metal ring stick on the plastic cover to be screwed on the holder. That's what made a sound like metal rubbing each other. So, basically what I did was just fasten the srew of the plastic cover to the holder.
I think the reason why it only occured at certain temperature was because when the inside temperature is very cold, the holder shrank and didn't touch the ring at all. When it's hot, the holder expanded and touched the ring completely so it won't rattle. At certain temperature, the ring and the holder will barely touch each other. So, when I hit a bump, it will rattle.

Btw, taking of the head unit really needs a lot of work. I need to take out the glove box, shift ****, ash tray, and the center console before I can pull out the audio unit.

KostasNK, I'm interested if you do take it to the dealer. I the same thing- an above 6k rpm rattle that's really quite annoying. Passengers ask "what's that rattling noise?" when I punch it. I have my suspicions that Kuzu has a different problem than what we have. I can't imagine any part of the dashboard that would ONLY rattle above certain RPM's, (and do it every time). I know there's been threads about this- so I'm off to use the search button.

Ok Zen.
I will try to take it in this week, if I am not so busy as the previous.
Lately the rattling is barely hearable and it's not there all the time. I' ll see how it goes and decide if I finaly take it in.I don't want the dealer making it worst.

I hope it isn't the remains of something organic that smells like sour milk!

I finaly found the time and took it to the dealer today. They were checking it for 2 1/2 hours.
They discovered that it is coming from a little cooler that is located inside tha dashboard. (I saw it myself.)
The cooling fluid is circulating there realy fast and it's causing this rattling noise. They said that it is better to send an email to mazda - japan and describe the problem, so they can tell them what to do. Maybe if your dealers do the same, they will issue a TSB.
When they temporarily shut of the cooling fluid circulation the rattling noise stopped. Maybe there is something wrong with the tubing or the radiator making a turbulent flow of the cooling fluid.(My guess)
In 2 to 3 days they will inform me what Mazda-Japan has to say about this issue.
They informed me that there is no problem with the car and nothing is going to happen to the motor. I am covered now because the issue is documented.
I hope this problem will soon be resolved.

Thanks for the info Kostas- I'll have to take mine in and I'm sure my dealer will have to email Mazda as well. They don't seem to know much about the 8's.

I used the car tonight and did around 100km.
Weird enough the rattling sound is gone!Maybe it has to do with the dealer removing some air from the coolant fluid, maybe not. I will inform you how it goes.
I'll be waiting for the answer to the email, the dealer sent to Mazda-Japan.
I will keep you posted!
