Angry are we a target??

the other day i was stopped at red light and a f-150 pulled next to me and screeches off as soon as light turned green, then he cuts me off and starts waving(mockingly) at me! WTF!!! and its not the first time a car(mostly civics and integras w/ coffee cans) caught me off guard. it seems like driving my rx8 means losing a race i didn't even know i was in...

The rx8's the new kid on the block, and his older brother had quite a reputation. Seems pretty natural that people are going to want to put it to the challenge.

Still, at least it's better than driving a 'vette. Then everyone revs on you.

That's what I don't like. I don't have an 8 yet (month or so...) but whenever I'm in my celica theres always a kid that pull up besides me in their nearly-stock civic and revs. I'll admit to actually doing something about it. I doubt that after I get my 8 I'll even bother too look at the other driver. (when I get it out of my system :P)

I like how theres civics out there that can beat Ferraris and Porsches, etc. .... but at the end of the day ITS STILL A CIVIC!!!!

So remember, they are the retards that put money into a $15K car to make it faster or drive better. And you are the intellegent individual that is driving a fast, nimble car... that has the looks.

"Racing a civic is like the special olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded!"

Wow, such open-mindedness, and from a celica driver no less.

A friend of mine is one of those "retards" who put money into a $15k car to make it faster or drive better. Civic hatch with a B18c swap. Not a quarter mile monster (although I've witnessed him run a 13.6 @ Carlsbad, all motor), but a car that's street-driven hours to road courses, where he races all day and then drives home.

Yes, it's still a civic. A civic that would trounce my rx-8 around Laguna Seca and in the quarter mile.

I'll put my little old 1st gen RX-7 against that Civic. He won't beat me!

This is an easy one to solve. Go easy off the line. Then they get pissed that you didn't think them worthy of a race, or didn't get the clue that they wanted to race. But, hey, grow up - you're not at the local drag strip. If they want results, they should look it up in a magazine.

You need to run your Miata against his Civic on an auto-x track. Those Miatas can humble most of the big boys out there quite easily. The little first gen does pretty well out there too. Both cars are like go carts. Lots of fun. Of course mine also has a snail under the hood which is great for other places. It doesn't really help in an auto-x much though. Snails are slow right?

I wasn't bashing his Civic. That's what I have for a daily driver.

I asked my neighbor how fast he's driven in his Ferrari Modena... and he said "80" I was like uhhh not faster? Then he said.. I already know how fast it can go... I want the chicks to see my car, not pass them by. So ya.. I would prefer the ladies to see the 8.

Besides, that fixed up Acosta RX-8 would beat the 15k+ civic modded car. Both fixed up right?

Still running stock compression?

At any rate, he'd also work me around an auto-x course, not just because his car is lighter and better set up, but because he's a better driver.

Edit: I should probably note he's running a full race suspension.

Most F series truck drivers drive like *ssholes anyway, at least where I live and work, so don't think too much of it.. They'll do that without any cars next to them.

But I understand your point about being a target. They're just envious we have a better looking sportscar.

I do the same or just sit there for a couple second as if they are not even worth my time. except when i have my audi with the AWD i would dust (nearly) everyone through the intersection. I did however pick my battles you know ice, frost or rain. the quattro system always gave me great traction.

Whoa whoa whoa...what gives winter? You referred to the rx8 as a he in your first reply. Do you have something you want to tell us?

LOL! Some rx8's are male, some are female. As a species, I use the male pronoun (similar to "man" landing on the moon). My particular example, however, is certainly female.

I wouldn't know since I always win . I haven't had anything serious to race but I like the sticker mods a lot of the kids around here have. I don't think that the extra 15hp that MSD sticker gave the Integra I raced yesterday enough oomph to catch up to me.

I am very old and drive like a granny, but not a day goes by where I don't have a race at at least six stoplights. Pickup trucks, civics, Corvettes, 350Z's it doesn't matter. Some speed up from behind and slow down to have a look.

Off the road, people come up and ask me about the car. Young people joke about wanting a ride or trading cars.

I like to drive and the car greatly appeals to me, but I hadn't anticipated this reaction.

No offense, nut mine is definately a male! (since I am female) I can blame any problem on him!!! hehe.I named him Little Boy after the bomb we dropped on Hiroshima. (Since I am from the Atomic City). After all, as we gals say, "if it has tires or *********, it will give you problems"! I just had to say that!!!!!

Yea, but the best part is watching those type of guys sink into their driver seat when they hear my exhaust.:D

I've had my RX-8 for about two weeks now, and have had people come up beside me on the highway wanting to race. I didn't buy this car to race, and I'll never do it, but I do find it kind of amusing. At least it means the car is getting attention.

I was harassed once by a truck during 9.5 years I had my Accord. I have had my RX-8 for one month and its happened three times, two of them were on the expressway, one in the city similar to what you described. I haven't had any other cars try provoke anything. In a different event, I had a truck blast his horn when I was right in front of him. He was at a stop sign and I was on a multilane road. Anyway it sure got my attention.

I hadn't really pondered that this could be a truck driver pattern. I know many people with trucks, and they don't seem to be the harass types.

Not only does every civic, GTi, and Mustang think they need to show off for me, but my car seems to be a magnet for stupid people in large vehicles. So far, I've had a cargo van try to back out of a space as I was driving by, a minivan do the same in the post office parking lot, and a pickup try and pull over on top of me in an otherwise empty lane. All three times they missed me by inches. Is this car THAT invisible???

Nope. It just so happened that those drivers' brains were inversely proportional to their vehicles.

:p
