warranty question

hey guys, quick warranty question for a somewhat new owner

if i have the extended warranty, Do I have to fill that maintenance log up that comes with it, each time the car is serviced? I bought the car used with 9.5k on it and I have all the dealer papers on whats done, etc but the log is not filled.

will not filling this maintenance log void it? Also is there any other paper the dealer usually writes on to keep a record of the maintenance? I can't seem to find it with the papers I got. I have 12.6 k on it now.

thanks caveney81, ill register. Also wanted to know if I had the recepits and the maintenance log is not written up by the dealer, would that still be considered in case I need to get something under warranty.

you mean since you bought it theres nothing as far as logs go previous to you purchasing? your wording and question is a bit choppy... try rewording perhaps?

Sorry caveney81,

What I mean is, for the warranty and extended warranty to work, does there have to be a written log of all scheduled maintenance performed on the car, or can recepits work? because I believe the warranties will be void if the car does not have its scheduled maintenance done? Correct me if i am wrong here.

you are correct... the scheduled maintenances do have to be done in order for warranties to hold up. with 30k being the first one.

I've never heard of having to prove regularly scheduled maintenance was performed in order to keep a warranty intact. (Note that I said prove, I'm not recommending it not be done.) I've had no issues with any warranty claims on my car, nor have I on past vehicles.

the 30k and 60k maintenance (per dealership, maybe they BSed me) were required and proof of to keep extended warranty valid.. perhaps a scam just to get more money from me? could always ring mazda for verification OP.

Wooo
Well I guess I will go in for my 15,000 mile maintenance (replace oil and oil filter and clean the air filter) by the dealer. Recepits will work I guess in case I have to "prove" maintenance.

I had an extended warranty on my Yukon and never had to prove any maintenance. And that lemon had almost $10k in warranty work done to it. I guess it all depends on the fine print on the extended warranty. As far as factory, they aren't going to make you drag in receipts or a maintenance log to prove anything. If you've neglected maintenance enough to where it caused failure, that will be obvious enough.

yea on the extended warranty (btw covered till 2012/75k miles) it says "Contract owners responsibilities: owner must satisfy all regular maintenance. failure to follow the manufacturers recommendations may result in a denial of coverage"

I guess it doesnt necessarily mean "keeping a log" but making sure the maintenance is done in accordance to the manufac. requirements.
