UK Warm start method for RX8

Hi just purchased a 2004 RX8 manual transmission.

I am aware of most things .. checking oil .. cold start method ... dont switch off till warm etc, but am having problems restarting the car when warm after turning the ignition off.

I believe there is a different method for 'hot-starting' the vehicle. could anyone enlighten me?

warm start issues usually result from low compression. year, mileage, when were plugs coils and wires last changed? might want to get a compression test done.

year 2004 ... mileage 48k ... recent plug change unsure about coils.

if your on the origional coils they should be replaced but save your recipts for coils and plugs, you might need to show them to mazda for warranty work. however warm start problems usually means low compression and should be tested. have you had any loss of power? is your cel on?

I am not sure if they are original coils or not. There doesnt appear to be any loss of power when driving, however i only picked it up yesterday after driving a Picanto for three years so i dont have much of an idea what it should be. runs fine once started from cold though. Not sure what CEL is so cant comment on that.

cel=check engine light. are you in the uk? if so im not sure you have the same warranty as we do in the us. 8yrs/100,000 miles on engine core. you might be able to remove the coils and look for scorching on them (kind of whiteish looking burns).

1) The component to fail in an ignition coil is the ignitior, which can not be tested with a meter.
2) The "white spots" on the bottom of the coil do not indicate the coil is bad.
3) Warm start problems can be the result of low compression, but you can try to decarb the engine with Mazda's 'Zoom-Zoom' cleaner or Sea Foam to see if it helps.
4) With you being an '04, also look into an upgraded starter and better battery if you don't already have one:

thanks everyone for your help so far. think i will get the battery and starter checked along with a compression test. in the meantime will try the decarb and check the coils. is there any way for me to check whether i need the updated battery and starter?

Once again .. thanks for you help.
As you can imagine, picking up the car and having problems like this is a bit disheartening. I love the car and hope to get the problem resolved as soon as possible at a reasonable cost.

Does anyone know what the UK warraty period is for starter and battery and whether they are changed as part of a recall or under warranty?

There was a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on the starter and battery, not a recall (so its not covered).
The DIY link I provided above shows you how to tell if you have the original or upgraded starter... you just need to jack-up the car and look.
The '04 and early '05 models have their list of problems (I know... I too have an '04) but once you correct them, she'll treat you right
And while its at the dealer getting a compression test, have them verify you have the latest flash (MSP16).

Yea with economic problems Mazda prob won't want to give out as many fresh cores anymore. Just imagine car sales if they had not destroyed 700,000 running engines.
