Talking Wanting an RX-8

Hey..

I am looking into buying a RX-8. Driving a 98 Honda Accord V-6 (200HP, 3.0l, automatic), I am kind of in need for more excitement carwise )

This is the car I am looking to get:

RX-8 6 Speed Manual
238-hp 1.3L Rotary Engine
2-Rear Wheel Drive

TITANIUM GRAY M
BLACK Leather
GRAND TOURING PKG M/T
CARGO NET
MOONROOF WIND DEFLECTOR
CARGO TRAY
ALARM SHOCK SENSOR UPGRADE
ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS
COLLAPSABLE CARGO CARRIER
FRONT/REAR SPLASH GUARDS
REAR WING SPOILER
SPARE TIRE KIT
IN-DASH 6-DISC CD CHANGER

Question to all you RX-8 owners out there... how do you like it? How does it handle? How does it compare to other cars on the road (i.e. trying to kick the sh*t out of those BMW 330cis, Audi TTs, etc etc on the road

Comments appreciated.

Straight line it's about in line with a new Accord V6, so if you're looking for something to race around on the streets light to light it's not a great choice. Since street racing rarely involves turns another car might be a better choice. However, the car takes to the twisties rather well and certainly better than the TT which isn't saying much... Basicly it's close to handling as well as an S2K with a little edge to the S2K in a straight line and a big edge to the RX-8 in practicality. Compared to say a 350Z, it lacks grunt but felt more tossable and lighter than the curb weight would suggest when comparing the two.

The following are pulled from current availability - due to problems...
ALARM SHOCK SENSOR UPGRADE - not sure why, but it's n/a right now
ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS - curls-up & gets in the way of clutch peddle.

Go ahead & order them with the car though - for price reasons. I just hope they don't mess-up your delivery date. (?!?) Maybe get them later thru www.trussvillemazda.com & the install is easy for both, from what I can recall.

MOONROOF WIND DEFLECTOR is not getting rave reviews around here.

THose are what stand-out most to me. Some others are not on my favorites list, but, to each, his or her own...and they're good, so go for it!

Although I don't own the car, I do test drove the cars on three separate occasions. I've to said the car indeed handles very well.
The engine is very smooth and rev freely. But personally I feel the cars lacks in mid-range torque. You have to down shift to 2nd more often in order to keep the juice flowing, and don't be afraid to rev it to the red line to keep it in the power band.

I've had the car for just over two months and love it. It's great for zipping around town and an absolute blast if you get to take it out on some winding country roads. I had the chance to take it on a pretty long road trip on the interstate and it was surprisingly comfortable there too. If given the chance to do it all over again, I would not hesitate a bit.

Only 2.5 weeks here, I have never had such a sweet car. I have said to myself 'this is probably the best car I will ever own' a couple times now. I have zero problems reccommending this car to anyone, its a great machine.

Hitting a winding road at high speed is awesome. I find myself stopping early at yellow lights just so I can floor it off the line .

I agree with IkeWRX, the RX-8 is a nice "practical sport car" but I'd pick something else if you need outright performance. I like the Sti a lot and if they were available and marked down $3-5k, I'd be all over it.

Looking at the mazdausa.com website again, I was thinking about whether I really need the G/T package.. the sports package seems to deliver all the things I really want, aside from the leather.. which sucks.. I wish you could get leather seats w/o having to select heated mirrors :-/ Does anybody have cloth seats?

Yea, I am thinking sports package myself. The GT is a pricey option. Plus lack of moonroof might be good for me as I am 6'3". Anyone know how much added headspace you get w/o moonroof.

Oh, and there is another thread specifically on cloth seats. Most of the comments were very positive.

Wahoo!

I offer one warning... when you go to test drive one you might suffer from lack of sleep until you get one of your own.. so plan ahead and make sure the one you want is at the dealer so you can skip that misery.

Out of curiosity, how many of my fellow club members had dreams where you were driving the 8 before you ever sat in one? Perhaps I'm just on the obsessed side, but I know I haven't used the snooze button since I got mine.... I haven't looked so forward to going to work since i was a **** star!

I'm just over six feet and barely fit into the version with the sunroof. It was a must because I just HAD to have the red/black two-tone leather interior.

When it arrived, I has a hard time sleeping the night before I picked it up. Dreaming about it seems to be pretty normal around here

Hehe... I only starting dreaming about owning/driving an 8 after my first test drive.

That was the first time I saw one in person and knew if the test drive was anywhere near as good as the car looks I would have to buy one.

That was a loooonng month getting my finances straight to go make the purchase, a lot of time for random dreams with a re-occuring RX-8 theme.
