Thumbs up Viva Las Vegas Viva Mazda

Attention all RX-8 Enthusiasts:

The first weekend of October 2003 in Las Vegas will be paradise both from the perspective of weather and scenery. More than 1000 Miatas, RX7's, RX-8’s and other Mazda marques will descend on Las Vegas in the first ever all MAZDA Nationals. Chairman of the Zoom Richard Blaine from MOOV, the Las Vegas Miata
Club held a committee meeting on Saturday January25. With only 40 members in their entire club it was overwhelming to find 45 people show up and volunteer to steer the event. Among the crowd was Dan Mazzella of rotarynews.com and the Las Vegas RX-7 club. Dan announced that the combined rotary clubs had decided to hold their annual "Sevenstock” event the weekend before the Mazda Nationals event so that many of their 3,000 car attendees could caravan on to Las Vegas the following weekend. The group has set an advance ticket price at $120 per person which will include a lavish kick off party and buffet dinner with entertainment (Thurs), poker runs, live concert by Al Jardine (founding member of the Beach Boys) and his band, banquet awards brunch and track time at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for just a tad extra. All the details and updates for the event will be posted at www.mazdaevents.com by Miata Magazine Club and Events editor Bob Retzer. This historic event marks the first time all Mazda marques will come together to stage a National event, combining their people power and resources to make for a spectacular car show as well as track event. It will be great to have a large group of RX-8 owners there as the NEWEST Mazda Marque. VIVA RX-8’s.
:p :D

While I didn't know I was talking for the entire rotary community, yes SevenStock6 will be the week before (although the date was choosen before we and the SoCalRX's knew anything about the Mazda Nationals...)

I look forward to having SevenStock atendee's, including the new RX-8 owners, come up to Vegas the week after the largest RX/Rotary Event to date.

So, put in for vacation time now, last week of September to the 1st week of October ASAP.

How do us East Coasters get our cars there without putting 5-6K miles on them? An affordable solution that is.

Are there any comparable events this side of town?

Guys, there are events like RRaCE and MADS that go on in Virginia, and there should be some other stuff happening in Florida in the next year or so.

Just keep your eyes open... and join a local RX club. They should all have information about smaller local events, and the larger 'national' ones.

I think what Berny is hinting at is...

For years people on the east coast have wished "a really cool Rotary gathering"was closer to them so they could actually go. Fret no longer. Keep your eyes open boys and girls. Just a few final details to resolve. Soon, very soon. Thats all we can say right now. :D Cheers...

Convention Track Event Update!

We are very pleased to announce that Flyin' Miata has come onboard to sponsor and coordinate the TRACK portion of THE ALL MAZDA Nationals at Las Vegas.

Flyin' Miata will be bringing in instructors and will be doing instruction, inspection and classing drivers.

As people sign up for the track portion we will be asking them their level of experience so that FM can class them (novice, intermediate etc).

The track event is limited right now to 75 cars (but, of course, the full All-Mazda event is open for as many people as want to come).

Cars are broken into 4 groups:
Experienced (20 cars)
Intermediate (20 cars)
Novice (15 cars)
Beginner/Ill-Equipped (20 cars)

First car out is at 9:00am, there will be an hour break for lunch, and the last car comes off the track at 4:15pm. Run groups will go in four 20 minute shifts (so everyone will run throughout the day). If anything happens to close the track (oil spill, for example), the clock keeps ticking on the affected
group. There is no "make up" time.

Helmets will be required, no loaners are currently at the track, I think motorcycle helmets will be OK. No other special safety equipment is needed (just be sure you have a functional standard seat belt). Shirts with long sleeves and
long pants are also required.

Also, rollbars are required for open cars on all groups except the
Beginner/Ill-Equipped group. This group will also have it's speed limited by a pace car. The other groups will not have a pace car.

Registration for the track event is done concurrently with your registration for the rest of the event. The price is $120 for the main Viva Mazda event (extended until August 15; after that it is $140) + $35 for the track. After August 15, you can register as "Track Only" (none of the rest of Viva Mazda) for
$90 if there are any open slots.

I don't have specs yet on the tech inspection. I do know that cars which are leaking stuff or have body panels falling off will not be allowed. As far as driving instruction goes, right now I believe that we'll have SOME instructors there on a casual basis. All drivers will attend a safety meeting before driving, but there will be no formal "driving school."

Passengers will be permitted as long as they have a seat belt, appropriate clothing, and a helmet.

The track event will be on Friday, October 3. It will happen concurrently with the Show & Shine and the Funcana, both of which are also taking place at the track. So, pretty much everyone is going to be at the track regardless of
what they are doing.

If you were considering on traveling a long distance to SevenStock, but couldn't justify it for only a weekend of events, go to both SS6 and the MazdaNationals and make it a whole vacation!

Join us for SevenStock on September 27th - 28th in Irvine, Ca, then make your way up to the 2003 All Mazda Nationals in Las Vegas October 2-5, 2003.

See http://sevenstock.org/ and/or http://mazdaevents.com/vivamazda/ for more info

Thanks for the plug for the event. To tell ya a quick bit about the event. Thurs night a dinner and a Route 66 party. Tuscany hotel are all suites and brand new. Friday all day at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We have sunk many thousands of bucks into renting the 1.8 track (which will be 2.5 by October) for 75 lucky drivers! The event will be done bythe pros from Flying Miata (real car guys) there will be a car show and funcanha too. Sit out the poker run on Sat or nurse your hangover by one of the pools but Sat night we have our own concert with the original Beach Boy Al Jardine. Ther is a breakfast Sun with other good stuff too. We will trim rooms soon so its a good time to book em. (all the stuff is at www.mazdaevents.com). If ya can't drive ...FLY but still come out to play!

Thaks for keeping this topic a "sticky". If you are driving to SevenStock make sure to come home through Vegas. There are still a few slots left open for the track if you want to play ON the track. If not you can still enjoy the car show and funcannah. It will be a fun event to fly into as well. Sign ups are at www.mazdaevents.com
The host hotel is at the Tuscany in Vegas.

Question TRAILDRIVE to VEGAS

Several of us from Texas (mainly Miatas) are inviting you to join us for a traildrive to Vegas for the national event. Particularly if you are from Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas driving through to VIVA MAZDA - VIVA VEGAS.....please join us.

Send me an email if you'd like to join in - we're planning a fun curvy romp from Clifton AZ up through Show Low/Eager AZ on the way.

IT'S MUCH MORE FUN WITH A BUNCH. Steve

Yeah, I've heard of all the stories about the ash and crap.

Sucks, but hopefully everything is almost under control soon.

BTW, still looking for viva las vegas pictures... anyone?
