Violated --- so.... violated
So this morning, I'm brushing my teeth getting ready for work and i hear a loud SMASH outside my window at the hotel. I'm paranoid because ive' already had my car egged.
I look outside and my heart sinks - i see my rear window smashed and a blue truck pulling away fast. i literally drop my toothbrush and run as fast as I can. By the time i get outside they are gone, im calling the cops and freaking out, when it gets worse my briefcase is gone, that had my Dell XPS Gen2 laptop inside.... jesus ******* christ.
What they did - they smashed my rear left window (the little one behind the driver side) and tried to reach and pull the case out, when they coulndt get it they smashed the entire rear window and pulled it out and drove away. I found it odd that they would have the ***** to do this at 8 AM!!!!! oddly enough my valentine one radar detector was still there as well as my ipod in the center console. *sigh*
Insurance will cost me 500 for all the damage (keep in mind i just paid 500 to get it fixed from being egged) and the laptop... well unless my parents homeowners insurance comes thru I'll be screwed. I wished I could have gone down there 60 seconds sooner, and had my gun.
I've spent all day on the phone with cops, insurance, family, more insurance... ugh I had to change all my passwords call my bank to make sure etc etc. I realize there is a 70% chance of the ******* going and selling it for drug money or something but if someone that knew how to bypass windows security and stuff was on there ugh!
Not only did they break my stuff and steal from me they fucked up the paint, scratched my rear left door to hell (dented it twice too), and scratched my trunk from this crap. I realize there is little I can do except pick up the pieces and try to recover it still sucks *** though. I keep trying to tell myself "its only money - it can be fixed"

Toxin my friend I realy think someone really hates your ***!! First the egging and now this.. I'm sorry to much bad luck in this short period of time. Unless this hotel is in a really bad area I hightly doubt they just picked your car outa all the others. Unless they scouted the place but still 8am.. thats yeah.. took some *****.

Sorry about your misfortune!!! But can I ask you why you would leave your XPS in your car? It doesn't look like your windows are tinted either...that's a huge invitation unfortunately. Hotel parking lots are probably thief magnets too.

As someone who has had multiple break ins and thefts on a previous vehicle--all I can say is I hope those crooks get caught and what's coming to them.

thank you all for the replies.
It's a F'd up situation - I've lived in this hotel for 8 months (work pays for it) and there are several coworkers that live here as well. I dont work for the hotel I just stay here. I took my dry cleaning and my briefcase down to the car b/c I had some more stuff to bring from my room to the car. When i get back up to the room i gather my things and brushing my teeth and SMASH. The XPS wasnt in the car overnight.
Tint: definetly on the list of **** to get. The hotel is in a huge block of other hotels (I'm in the nicest one here in the area) The neighborhood isnt that (to the north its great to the south its ghetto) The officer was telling me that hotels were a breeding ground for crime. I already registerd the laptop as stolen with dell.
Another thing thats F'd up is 1/2 the people that work in our group (all the older ones) are setup in paid for apartments down the road that are gated and nice. I'm going to tell my bosses after getting jacked up twice here in the same parking lot I want them to seriously consider moving me to an apartment. (they would actually save money in the long run)

i had the same thought - if i cant get the laptop back i hope it blows up in their face, or the 100 dollars they make from selling it on the street... i hope they drugs they buy with it are poison and it kills them.

I guess you're just so *lucky* to be their victium.
It just happen that you happen to drop the laptop down for a short while and it just happen that those theifs *patrol* the area and saw a *breifcase*
Sigh ...... maybe you should check your laptop's serial number, see if it has a Sony battery. If it does. You should start praying everyday from now on until you see your laptop on the news.

unfourtunatly being the aware and consumer conscious person - the batteries in my briefcase wont explode (ive already checked them on the dell recall) so no luck there. ALl i hope for is if they are some drug heads that use the money for dope.... they OD and kill themselves.

I just.... I hate thieves, they can't work towards anything in life and are so low and tallentless that they must reap from the benefits of others. Also, attacking a car is the lowest of the low (for us car enthusiasts) I'd rather have my all house windows get smashed then my car hurt in any way. Ugh.....
I hope you get some nice tinted windows and a better laptop(I'm sure they'll contact Dell to get you an identical one outfitted with the same specs, HD, RAM, Proccesser etc. but, good luck anyway).

yes the laptop has a password on it, it wasnt anything you can find in a dictionary and it was a combo of letters and numbers, - but anyone that wants at the data can get to it if they REALLY wanted to - i.e. take out the HDD and get an adapter and hook it to a desktop SATA port and take ownership manually of the files... if that were the case I would say they ripped off my laptop KNOWING what I had on there and at that point it would be some really fucked of business espionage game.... i dunno
all my work data was on it i have backups but only as recent as 3 weeks ago here on my desktop. (some stuff i can retrieve via Gmail's sent folder)
if they KNEW what they got on that laptop they would be in disbelief - i make maps for this oil and gas outfit and use a program called ArcGIS (very very expensive) and the actual data sets can cost upwards of $50,000 just for ONE county map.... so yeah

if the home owners insurance comes thru for my parents (it should they have had coverage for 25 years and only had ONE very small claim under 1000 dollars.) My dad told me from what he found out they will just send out some papers for me to fill and they would cut me a check for the value of an equal replacement. It will be interesting to see what happens because on the dell website im not seeing any XPS Gen2s im seeing inspiron XPS line of "badass" notebooks that are pretty similar to what I have for exacly the same price. I paid nearly 3000 dollars for this one a year ago (i know a long time in computer history) but if i can get it covered for say $2200 dollars + my 500 deductible contribution I can actually come out with a better laptop (core duo 2)
while that would indeed be nice - i would much prefer for none of this nonsense to happen and for me to have MY laptop back
