Vandelized 8 in military base

Hey guys,

This morning my 8 was key'd to hell and back. It has scratches from what looks like 3 different keys and it was all over the car. From headlights to taillights and on both driver and passenger sides. This is the first time Ive had this happen to me so Im a bit sad. It hurts to see those scrathes from 30 feet away. Anyways its very unfortunate too that it happened inside a military instalation. I had the Military Police come and check it out. They took my statement and took pictures of the damage. I also called my insurance and theyre scheduling me to get it fixed early next week in San Diego. I'll still look around for a respectable body shop while Im down there this weekend. I took pics but I have the cable that uploads it to my comp in San Diego so Ill post them this weekend. Thanks for listening to my vent guys.

Sorry to hear. By any chance was there a camera?

Kane 03-15-2007 02:32 PM

WTF!!!!???? That really pisses me off, it is bad enough that no one seems to care about your ride in parking lots, etc. But at least on base you should not have to worry about punk asses. That is BS, wish you could find them and you know.... counsel them.... and uh provide some kind of training program for them... yeah, that is exactly what I would do.

RotaryP7 03-15-2007 02:33 PM

Wow. Talk about haters..

StewyRX8 03-15-2007 02:36 PM

Dude, thats weak. Why are people such dbags? Hope you find 'em and then crucify them...

Sounds like a Pea-minded jealous A-hole that needs to be taken in back of the hanger and get their butt kicked. Good luck.

jskup1 03-15-2007 02:41 PM

Some of the trashiest people are in the military unfortunately. Either they're jealous pieces of crap or they don't give a shit as they'll open their door into you without thinking twice. That is why I have a '96 tercel which I drive to the base every day.

There are a lot of random people on most military bases. Even the commissaries are sometimes on base and any family member has access. It's not like he parked inside Ft. Knox or something.

bottoms up 03-15-2007 03:26 PM

OMG you seem like you reacted ALOT better then I would have. Good luck with getting it fixed, Im sure they will make it look like new again!!!

Chrisbert 03-15-2007 03:27 PM

Time for a soap party.

Winfree 03-16-2007 02:55 AM

That stinks!!!
Have you got a lot of teenage dependents on base? (It's hard to believe that some one in a uniform would fall this low!) I hope the cops or OSI or who ever tried to fingerprints!
If you can figure out the time when it occured you might be able to watch because they had to be coming or going - especially if they had a key in their hand!

It one thing to envy a great car and another thing to mess up somebodies stuff - can you figure out from the scratches how tall the person was? Right or left hand? That key will have paint residue that will be hard to hide....

N rider89 03-16-2007 03:32 AM

sick the military on them?

marvin_rock 03-16-2007 05:21 AM

That really really blows. I would @#!$ someone up, you have no idea. My 8 is like my holy grail and everyone knows it. Yeah, surprisingly enough military bases aren't that restrictive. If you just make up a name (I'm here to see Sgt Smith) have a lisence, insurance and proof of registration, you can get on base. Have you pissed anyone off lately? were any other cars keyed? Just seems random. Crazy man, I would totally hunt someone down.

Maraku 03-16-2007 10:15 AM

Thanks for the reply guys. The MPs didnt take any fingerprints. They said it was one of those cut and dry cases because there have been multiple reports of the same incident for the past week or so. They said expensive cars are being targeted and their only suspects are high school kids and "young" Soldiers from my squadron. He gave me a pat on the back and said have a good day. I did try putting those quick fix scratch solution to my car and for the most part it hid about 50% of the scratches. Atleast my 8 doesnt look like a zebra anymore :yelrotflm

Dinhx8 03-16-2007 10:15 AM

you need to find out who ordered the code red.

Cody Red 03-16-2007 10:26 AM

eeh, sorry to read about this. I'm always concerned about leaving my car alone. home you find a good body shop.

glad to see you're feeling a little better (hence the humor "at least my 8 doesn't look like a zebra anymore" hah

I was going to ask that same question! Sometimes I think you have to worry about stuff like this if you give people paperwork! While you may be doing your job there are people that are unsuitable for being in the military and would probably react in such a way! Other than that the military is still a reflection of society (beyond what some might believe)! There are people from all walks of life both positive and negative and some of the negative don't leave all of their negatives behind when they join!

F***in LOW Life...

More than almost anything else, when you take care of your pride and joy, some asshole does this...

An accident...well it's an accident, but this IS the most SNEAKY way of being a total prick!
No one usually see these F* Heads, and sometimes you never see the damage until you wash.

Good luck with the fix mate.

Sheep 03-16-2007 03:27 PM

I hope is not Polk you are talking about. After I got my 8 two years ago, our population of Rx8 is going up to almost double digit. But look that the bright side, your 8 hasn't been ran over by a TANK... yet :).

Look, it could have been a civilian, it could have been a dependent. Nobody in the military would vandalize a vehicle; if they had any service with the military they an E-nothing, busted down, already well on their way to being discharged. Who has time to vandalize a vehicle anyway? Don't even have time to sleep!

It's nice that you think of the military that way but unfortunately you are wrong! I had a friend who was in the military and his ex-girlfriend was in the military and she keyed, broke the windows out, and slashed all 4 tires on his car...all while being active duty! I'm not bashing your take on things...I'm just telling you the facts!

astrozoom 03-17-2007 04:09 PM

The fact is that it absolutely sucks that your car was keyed on base, however, it does not matter if everyone speculates on this forum about who did it, the men and women in uniform are still serving the people of this nation day in and day out. There are thousands of our troops overseas right now putting their lives on the line every day to serve us, and there is no reason anyone needs to bad mouth these troops just because of the possibility that one bad apple decided to be a jerk!

so serving in the military means :

(a) you can key cars?
and
(b) you are above criticism if you do?

Wurmfist 03-19-2007 09:24 AM

I had a friend have a car keyed when I was in the Air Force. The SP's came out and took pictures did a report and actually the Base itself paid for the damages to be fixed. So I don't know if you can have the base pay for the damages or at least your deductable.

Kane 03-19-2007 10:04 AM

I was going to mention that as well. It kind of depends, but basically the rule is that when you vehicle is secured on federal property, they have a responsibility to secure it, and as such should pay for the damage. (Example: You can't carry a personal firearm on base to protect yourself, it is the military police's job to protect you while on base.)

I am in the middle east right now, and while I appreciate the kind words astrozoom, the reality is there are knuckleheads in the military just like the rest of the world. I think we are better than average but there are plenty of the bad element as well. The good news is if we catch them, our justice system is pretty nasty!

Maraku 03-19-2007 11:07 AM

Kane,

First of all, I wish you a safe tour over there. Where in the Middle East are you at? I did my time in Iraq during the initial invasion and in Afghanistan in 05. Now Im enjoying my Terminal Leave from the Army :ylsuper:

Kane 03-19-2007 11:10 AM

1st Civ Div huh? I am in Kuwait, we are based here and we fly out of here for missions as they come up. We are a CENTCOM asset so we go all over.

dmc27 03-19-2007 11:49 AM

GD I hate vandalizing MFs. It's such a cowardly thing to do. Sorry about the 8 Maraku.

And here's what Kane needs to stay extra safe & come home to! Clicky!

Kane 03-19-2007 11:57 AM

Sweet, I miss em both already.

Lets hope no one keys my ride... then it would be on, I am not a small docile dude.

As for the federal property thing, I just talked to my first sgt and he said that yeah, they should pay to get it fixed, just have to fill out the paperwork.

dmc27 03-19-2007 12:01 PM

Only 700 signatures required, and you're check will be in the mail no later than January . . . 2009!! :hahano:

Phantom Menace 03-19-2007 12:06 PM

Even the Army has its share of lowlife-dirtbags...:suspect: Every branch has 'em. I've had foglamps taken right off of my old Integra. I was parked on the pier, about 200 yards from an Aircraft Carrier in broad daylight, at NAS Alameda for about 2 hours.

webgrl 03-19-2007 12:07 PM

My 8 mysteriously got a flat on St. Patrick's Day... Mazda is saying it looks like it was probably vandalism. And I just bought those tires in November! Boo.

The Military Personnel and Civilian Employees’ Claims Act

Quote from Stars and Stripes:

“It is reasonable to store a radio in your wall locker; however, storing a $5,000 stereo system in the wall locker is probably not,” wrote Marine Corps 1st Lt. Adam Workman, a legal services officer then in Iwakuni. “Whether the use or possession was reasonable, useful or proper is a judgment call that will be made by the adjudicating official.”

If all conditions for reimbursement are met, the money given for the damaged or lost property is based on repair estimates, or replacement estimates minus depreciation if repair is impossible. If repairs already have been made, receipts are required.

Filing a government claim

When filing a government claim you will need the following:

* DD Form 1842: Claims for loss of or damage to personal property incident to service.
* DD Form 1844: List of property and claims analysis chart.
* Electronic funds transfer form.
* Photos.
* Two estimates of repair for repairable items.
* Verification of replacement price — original receipts from the BX, catalog or Internet prices, etc.
* Title, military registration and insurance paperwork for all vehicle claims.

It always seemed like the Navy just wants to be made fun of. Why else would you choose to have a rank called "ordinary semen"?? oh, sorry, I think I misspelled that.

First of all, I wasn't knocking the Army...I said, every branch has little vandals thus, it should come to no real surprise that a car, parked on base, should be excluded from the same hazards and potential dangers that Jody's car faces.

har. har. har. har. hardy-har-har. There is no "ordinary" in the title btw...:suspect:

Nah bro, just a cheap mo-fo, if the DoD is paying... I wanna know the regs right?

Yeah, the chicks dig the shorts though, so it is all good. Plus you never have to worry about tan lines at the beach. Functional and fashionable. :lol

Sorry to say it but you are right! I worked with Army and trained with Navy...I've also worked with prior service from all branches and the Navy guys are always the easiest prey when it comes to jokes! I used to shut one particular Navy guy up with the joke about where their name is on their "dungarees"!

The stencil on Dungarees are on the SAME locations as on every other service branch's uniforms. But yeah, Dungarees do SUCK! Most of the guys in boot were praying that the rumor of "Blue Cammys" was true.
For the record...I only wore Dungarees in Boot. There after, I wore, either, BDUs or black rubber.

Kane 03-19-2007 01:16 PM

HA HA, blue cammies... I forgot about those, that way when you fall overboard no one will ever find you.

Believe it or not, that's the logic behind the bell bottoms on the Dungarees! When tucked into your socks, the Bell Bottoms are to act as a...FLOATION DEVICE! :rollingla

I think that the Nav was just to cheap to change the uniform after the "fashionable '70s," when sailors wore beards...
