Yup.... i have the same line of thought.

It is funny though, cuz even when i go out with just friends, they freak out when I open their door for them. One even commented "my husband" never did that. Just a reflection of how you are raised I guess.

Bronx tale is a fave movie and they put in that part about a woman leaning over to open the guys door chivalry should be mutual although automatic door unlock makes it a bit more interesting.
Most women appreciate the gesture boys, so +1 to opening the door for the lady would give my future man points for that annnnnnny day.

As far as 90 percent of the kids these days, yes it is.

I believe in opening the door for my girls. I mean girl. It was something that has always been instilled in me. Common courtesy. I don't feel a lady has to open the door for a man though.
I mean I believe in equal rights and all but women are the fairer sex. I feel men should treat them a bit better than their manly buddies.
It's the little things that entice women and make lasting impressions.

+1, i always open the door for any woman who gets in my car although it is normally just my fiancee

it is amazing how far the little things will get you in life... maybe you guys who have never opened a door for a woman should try it sometime. not only do you look like a nicer guy, it will prevent the door from swinging into an obstacle (ie - another car, a pole, etc) since you will be right there to hold it. some people just are not familiar with the size or how easy the rx8 doors can swing open at times, especially with a little breeze in the right direction.

this story is actually from a movie. a bronx tale.

i dated a girl once, and it was SO obvious she saw this movie, she was in such a rush to unlock the door for me after she got in. ruined it for me

what annoys me is when you open the door for her, it locks as soon as you shut it to walk to the drivers side of the car (this happens with keyless ignition models)

um yeah i never saw bronx tale. i had to just look it up. I read/heard that story a much longer time ago than 1993. probably a decade earlier than that. I get the feeling i watched some one say it on Carson or Mike Douglas.

Sometimes you have women that think on the opposite end of the spectrum. In other words they find it insulting you are a gentleman trying to do things for them because in their mind it makes them think that you believe they can't do things for themselves. Although that's usually a sign of a womanist, you get the idea..

Regardless, I'd still open the door.

lol, this is true, i can only speak for myself so i will revise what i wrote, I would appreciate that gesture annnnnny day. am Sicilian and raised by an olde world Sicilian father and taught that a man should treat his lady with respect and soooo speaking for myself, chivalry is pure win and gets the man treated even more like a king than without.

hmmm, am prob gonna be flamed if any feminists read what i am about to post, but i love bein me and will own it soooo, i'm kinda old school, i think if you are married or in a relationship then all the more reason the man open the door, order for his significant other (obviously after the woman has told him what she would like lol), etc. i think its sexy and intimate and shows a shared respect, the man taking his role as leader and the woman trusting him enough to follow him. its a bit olde worlde in thinking but again, i was raised a bit different. everyone has a preference and if you find your match then you work it whatever way works best for the two of you. mutual respect is key. and again, just myyyy personal preference lol. i judge no one

Well I'll say it's cool because she (my sicilian friend) and I both have mutual respect coming from good raising to both agree with old fashioned ways better than society's in this day and age. You don't find many people like that anymore.

Actually to be technically correct she's half sicilian (mother's side) while father was from Aussie land and stole her heart from Italy

I've always opened doors for the girls that get in my car and I am part of the younger generation... Having 5 sisters and being the only boy + the youngest. Everytime I went somewhere with my sisters it was drilled in my head what I have to do.

Even though the small things should help give you some browny points. It doesnt really help with this generation of girls. Normally I get the wtf look like "why are you opening my door for me.."

Sigh.. sometimes I can't win.

Well even at 30 (30 myself) it can be the same....American women (and men) tend to be bred last few decades to society's norm and way of thinking; women have lower expectations and date guys who treat them like crap but stay anyway and guys well, act like players.

Depends on the culture of the area, or the upbringing one had.
