The Ultimate Rx8 ?!

It Was A Quiet Afternoon. I Was Checking Out Info For The 07 Nopi Atlanta, And an Ad Appeared For "BP Amoco Ultimate Ride". I Entered. I Won. Has Anybody Seen This Custified Ride?

Yeah, I Won. I Entered On Line While Checking Out Info For The Nopi Show In Atlanta. My Wife Called Me At Work And Asked If I'd Entered A Contest. I Said "no". She Said Something Called "bp Ultimate Ride Sweepstakes Giveaway". I Said"yeah". I'm Still In Shock, Both From Winning And From The Friggin Tax I'll Have To Pay. This Has Been Rockin On Since Mid December, Sending Paperwork Back And Forth, But The Rx8 Is Supposed To Be Delivered This Week. I've Only Seen Pictures Online So Far, And I've Got Mixed Feelings On How It Looks, And That Its An Automatic.

Did the IRS value the car at the $72K price that was listed?

yup. I appealed the 72k value to the marketing company, but they would'nt budge. Ther is supposed to be some kind of appeal process with IRS, but I think I have to sell the car.

appeal it to the IRS, they won't hold onto the 72k price tag

They say it's worth 72 beacuse you have to pay 25% gift tax or perhaps 48%
18k for a new 8 is a good deal, except ypu will have to paint it.

Thanks. I didn't think people really won sweepstakes either, especially me. They are removing the BP logos before delivery (my guess is that in case i get caught with a shopping bag full of drugs, or run into a school bus full of kids, that the "BP" car would't be featured on national news) so the green color may look ok. How do you think it will drive with a supercharged automatic.? It looks like I give up a lot of horsepower, and have a much lower redline with the auto.

blynch,

Check out the Pettit Racing SC threads. They put out a flash for the SC that provides more power but not sure if it is for the automatic. I'm sure you will be plenty happy with power output once you take the car for a drive.

Do they make you sign anything that prevents you from altering its appearance? If not then after you recover from paying the taxes then I say paint it!

Anything called an "ULTIMATE" RX-8 should not include the word "auto."

They probably figured they'd get more people to enter the sweepstakes if it were an auto. As hard as it is to believe, a lot of people can't drive a manual. I'd imagine those people wouldn't even bother to enter.

You could sell the car and get something else. There are a lot of good options out there. The Infinity G37 coupe, the Honda S2000, BMW 3 series. Or as someone already mentioned I think, you could buy a fully loaded 6-spd RX8 GT (that would be my choice).

Then again, you could sell it and help pay back those tuitions your kids may still have outstanding...

PS: I still can't believe you won that car, that is really, really, really awesome!!!!!!!!!!

See if the IRS will agree to an Ebay sale to establish the value of the car. Then just bid and buy back the car from yourself.
After all, the value of an object is only as much as someone will pay for it. I could price a rock from the side of the road for 72K, but that doesn't mean it's worth that.
