dude...compound fracture to the right femur...ouch!
breaking your femur rates a 10/10 on the pain scale...breaking it and having it stab right out of your thigh! i can't even imagine!
i hope for your sake the crash knocked you out and you woke up all bandaged up in the hospital...

Well I was going about 60mph i'm guessing. I dont remember anything about the accident besides waking up in the passenger seat and feeling my leg. I also remember a little bit of the helicopter ride. As for my car, its totaled and luckily I have GAP insurance. My loan will be paid off and I will reconsider buying a new one. Maybe wait for next one to come out.

Jeez.... I'm glad glad you're alright (for the most part )! That's just scary as hell. Don't wanna nag you or anything after being shook up like that, but buckle up... we don't wanna lose a fellow member! Consider yourself lucky to have a wake-up call!

I'm sure many of you have seen this, but alot of folks have been asking about the crashworthiness of the 8. Here you go:

Crap!

Glad you are still alive (I won't say glad you are "ok" because your injuries are actually quite serious) after this terrifying accident.

Interesting point about seatbelts- I ALWAYS buckle up, but looking at the way everything was caved in on the driver seat, I also can't help but wonder if the injuries would have been worse if your seatbelt was on.

The RX8 has smart airbags. Not having the seatbelt buckled meant a "light" (partial) inflation. If the seatbelt was buckled, it would have made a full inflation. Might have prevented the tooth/steering wheel altercation.

So, after Charlie and Frances, how'd you even find a standing tree to go and hit?

I agree about possibly prevent the tooth/steering wheel altercation, but the question is at what cost?

Hard to know obviously, but I don't like the way that dash area came in on the driver.

Considering how much of an inroad the tree made into the engine bay I think that the amount of destruction in the cockpit is pretty reasonable - I'm thinking this was about as close as you get to having your number come up. Hitting a tree at this kind of speed; IMO the car held up pretty well.

Glad your are getting better. Looks like you came too close to meeting your maker.
I'd agree that given the pictures the 8 held up well.

I really don't know how anyone here could say that "the 8 held up well". The fact of the matter is that we simply don't have enough information to know whether it "held up well" or not. What we do know is that a lot of the dash area came in on the driver, and that is NOT good.

But, it may be better than other cars given the same impact. We just don't know.

We do know that the airbags deployed, obviously a good thing.

@cgrx: IMO the door is slightly open, that's why the seam casts no shadow.

If you really hit the tree at 60 mph or only near that speed, it's a wonder you got out alive! The picture looks like you hit it sideways, near the left front wheel.
