Transmission replacement

Alright, some of you might know my car is sitting at a Mazda dealership and is now authorized to recieve a new transmission.

The dealer told me everything going to be done under warranty, and now he's saying (and trying to talk me into) paying him a couple hundred dollars.

He didn't want to discuss prices over the phone, and asked me to come down there to talk to him.

What should I do?

Animagix 01-04-2006 10:53 AM

bring a baseball bat with you.

chambo 01-04-2006 10:58 AM

....and a lawyer.......

nah baseball bat should suffice.

Bart! 01-04-2006 11:05 AM

So what should I tell this guy? (my service manager)

Bart! 01-04-2006 11:10 AM

He called me again and said he has a rental car for me, I told him I don't think i'll be going through with the job since I'm really short on money and he told me I wouldn't have to pay for anything.

He said either way its fine, he said pointed out that I didn't buy the car from there dealership.

Bart! 01-04-2006 11:21 AM

He called me back again to tell me he's going to go through with it under warranty, lol word.

cjkim 01-04-2006 11:22 AM

call MNAO - 949-727-1990
did he give you a reason as to why he's changing the estimate now?

[edit] okay i take that back... still, what a dick for pointing out that you didn't buy it from that dealership[/edit]

Bart! 01-04-2006 11:24 AM

Well, his reason was that the car wasn't purchased at his dealership... thats about it.

I guess it's alright now considering he's doing it for free. I wouldn't have went and paid them either way, that would just make me look like a complete and utterly jackass retard.

BlueRenesis82 01-04-2006 12:30 PM

Yeah, I would have asked MNAO to call me and inform me why I needed to pay for warranty work.

knight7 01-04-2006 02:11 PM

at least you getting it replace, just feel lucky you didnt have to go thru more shit thatn this. in my position i wouldve give him not a couple of hundreds, i wouldve give him 1000 but thats just me.

Asmoran 01-04-2006 02:13 PM

Hey, knight - I think you got a leaky water pump. I'm gonna need $1000 so I can fix it for you, okay?

The service departments I have talked with have been separate profit/loss centers from car sales. Neither my local Mazda service center nor the Chrysler service center my wife used for warrenty work on her van cared if we had bought through their dealership.

Heck, in the van's case we bought in Oregon 3 years before we moved to New York. In my RX-8's case I bought in Maryland when none of the 5 nearest dealerships had blue RX-8s at all. Any service department has two choices 1) get paid to do your warrenty and other service work, 2) don't.

I'd put this service manager on the watch list. If you told the whole story it sounds like he was trying to scam you. :spank: :nono: Make's me wonder why he would try to pull a fast one on you when he's already going to be paid by Mazda for a $1000+ job. Do you look like you were born yesterday? :dunno: ;)

i wouldnt care. my car was parked all winter on 2004 and parked all summer on 2005 so i didnt get to enjoy it and i had to pay mazda 2230 for havin my car parked there cause they didnt want to fix it. so 1000 to get it replace its nothing.

P.S. my pump is not leaking.

^ Oldest trick in the book. Bart! just take the baseball bat then tell him your going to charge him for "warranty issues" lol!

Bart! 01-05-2006 10:39 AM

Now they told me I might not be needing a new transmission, and he was going to order the parts today... I asked him what parts and he said he didn't know yet.

This is starting to look fucking rediculous, after I told him i'm not paying a single thing he seemed like he wants the easiest way out. I don't get it, the first thing he told me was that I was going to need a new transmission.

The car was dropped off last monday, today is day 12. I was offered a rentral car yesterday, didn't take it.

What the hell is going on...

Bart! 01-05-2006 10:44 AM

By the way, this is making me feel sick to my god damn stomach. I'm tired of all this bull shit lieng, this world is clearly full of nothing but greed and lies. Pathetic...

Red Devil 01-05-2006 10:48 AM

You need to find a new dealership.

Call around and talk to the service reps and pick out another one.

Bart! 01-05-2006 10:59 AM

The transmission is out of the car, at least he says so.

Do you recommend I go down there and find out what's going on? I'm think im going to puke.

Bart! 01-05-2006 11:01 AM

The problem with me getting the car out of there now, is only because I'll need to wait even longer to get it fixed.

Bart! 01-05-2006 11:09 AM

I seriously need to know what to do guys, thanks for all your advice...

Coop '04 01-05-2006 11:23 AM

Go down there.

Find out why suddenly it is ok to replace parts.

Make him show you everything, like what parts were bad and, why and what he replaced.

PAY NOTHING!!!

Red Devil 01-05-2006 11:27 AM

At this point who cares if the tranny is out - that's what tow trucks are for. Seriously, if this is the whole story, on principle I'd take it somewhere else just so they don't get any of your money.

Put them on their heels, tell them to give you a final DETAILED estimate by a certain date/time, or you're getting it towed to another dealer.

Oh, and I agree with Coop - pay nothing.

Str8cold 01-05-2006 11:30 AM

First off it does not matter what dealership you bought the car from, MAZDA is paying for the warranty work not you. Second, him trying to get you to pay extra money for work that is covered under warranty that is fraud. I would highly recommend contacting MNAO and let them know as well as contact your local NEWS if they have an investigative reporter to try and get this guy on tape doing this to another person.

Stuff like this and people wonder why wonder Mazda is not selling as many cars as the others, it is because you have to do your research and be prepared everytime you walk into the service center for warranty work to battle it out just to get your vehicle repaired. If Mazda would get their shit together and actually treat their customers with respect I am sure more people would continue buying their product instead of switching over to the competitors.

Bart! 01-05-2006 11:37 AM

I might consider doing that in the future, although I need to be certain my vehicle is going to be repaired first. Perhaps when it is, i'll than call the MNAO.

Getting it towed to another dealership, and getting them to actually work on my car right away is close to not happening. I'm going to toughen up my conversations with the manager when I go there. I don't feel my car is in good hands, actually I feel like it got stolen and the police just found it wrecked.

I'll let you guys know how my visit turned out.

NomisR 01-05-2006 11:49 AM

Call MNAO about their shady actions, that'll get the job done FAST...
