Trading my New car in for RX8

Is this crazy ? I have a 04 Honda Civic SI that I just bought three weeks ago ...but I can't sleep at night thinking about how I could of had the RX8.. I will admit I listen to all the Negatives and not enough Positives...

Just looking for some advise on what I should do ? Buyers Remorse is Killing me..

your gonna lose some money....

Unless you got a screaming deal on your Honda, you are going to lose some money. At a minimum, you will lose the tax you paid on the car.

I think with tax and depreciation.. you can figure you lost at least 10%.. But ya gotta go with what makes you happy.. but when you buy the RX-8.. and then the supercharged Mazdaspeed comes out next year, are you going to have buyers remorse again?

I'd wait a little while. What does the 8 have to offer that your current car doesn't?

I sold an Accord once after owning it for 2 months. I got tired of constanly red-lining it!

Go see what you are going to have to pay. That will directly affect your decision. It will be a big hit. You will be better off selling on your won rather than trading, but that will only go so far. You can always roll some of your negative equity into the new purchase if you trade, but you'll be upside down much longer.

Get all the number then see what your hearts telling you.

I can understqand where your coming from . . . I had a 1 year old 330i with only 11,000 miles on it and I traded it in after driving my stepfathers RX8 for a few days.

The car is intoxicating !!!

Forget the fact I took a $12,000 bath on the Bimmer ... luckily I owned it outright so it wasn't THAT bad.

theres like a $10k difference between the two cars, i dont see how you lose sleep on that. in fact i'd be sleeping rather comfortably ontop of 10k dollars tucked beneath my mattress. keep in si, its a fun car to drive, you can always trade it in later for the mazdaspeed rx8 or the new rx7 *fingerscrossed*

Thank You all for your Advise... I realize Now on what a Huge Mistake this was (buying the SI) don't get me wrong it's a fun little car but I'm not happy...

I have Never been so Captivated by one car like I am the RX-8 there is just something about it that has me so intrigued..

Well It's off to see my Mazda Dealer and to see what they can come up with I am prepared for the Worst trust me...Insurance was not that bad only $20.00 more a month than the SI.

Again Thank You!!

I know in certain states that there are clauses that allow you to return a car within 30 days. Not an expert here... anyone know about or heard about this?
A friend of mine returned a car after a week. No loss. It was stupidity on their part too!

I would have traded you my 8 for your bimmer and some cash. Certainly would have been much less than the $12K bath you took.

LOL .... the 12k bath is history . .. right before I was getting rid of it I had someone emailing me constantly trying to buy it from me for considerably more then the dealer was offering me for the trade in and I told them . . . not interested . . . I'd much rather trade it in and forget about it then have to deal with a private sale.

One thing I learned at an early age . . . I am not a car dealer, let them do the selling and I'll do the buying. Selling a car privately is such a pain in the a**

I agree totally. Know what the kbb values are for selling to a dealer and selling to a private person and then think whether the price difference is worth the hassle. To me it's never been worth the hassle.

I traded in my 03 Explorer Sport Trac with 22k miles on it. I bought it thinking my gf at the time and I were going to get married. She talked me out of the 8 and into the Explorer. Well she was too "practical" for me among other things so no more gf and no more Explorer. I paid up the 4k I was upside down in the Explorer and got the 8. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact I lost a fraternity brother in Iraq to a sniper. I learned how short life was and since I have no one to answer to but myself and no other mouths to feed I got the 8. Your situation may vary.

I have no regrets at all.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, almost. I wanted the Rx8 when I first got my car but I couldn't really wait 3-4 months without a car so I went ahead and got a RSX TypeS instead. Not a bad car with good mileage, decent handling and handling but coming from another Integra, just leaves something more to be desired and really need some change.

I am about to move in less than a month which means I would save about 150 on insurance with the new zip code. Also, with the switch to the Rx8, I would be saving another 150 on insurance which means I would be saving roughly $300 on insurance every 6 months. With shorter commute to work and cheaper insurance.. I'm looking see how much I can get for my car but looks like I'm going to lose about 3000+ taxes on a trade in..

How about

- Rear wheel drive
- More power
- Better Handling
- Looks much better
- Better breaks

Okay. MPG is not as good as the SI. But that is the only dowside.
