Traction Control........or not

I went to a vegas meet last night and we all got talking.....it seems everyone had traction control apart from me, now i know why my car is sliding around all the time.
So it got me wondering how many people have and dont have traction control?

I have traction control, it saved my life MANY times.... especially when I drive from California to Montana in the winter.... it's like INSTANT DEATH without traction control over there in the winter.

If yes, I have it. It seems to work well, letting the tires slip a little, letting you have some fun, before reining you in.

I have it, but i sometimes take it off. If you r gonna race u better make sure its off if u have it, but im sure people know that. I was trying to burnout one time and i couldn't do it. Then i saw the DSC button, pressed it, and burned out

i have it. i thought they all come with dsc stock. it rocks to have. but im happy that i can turn it off. otherwise the car would suck. i got beat by a s10 blazer off the line because i didnt turn the dam thing off. tires chirped for a second then bogged out. it was embarrassing at first...and funny afterwards.

Is traction control the same thing as DSC?
Not quite. Traction control is part of DSC. Traction control keeps your rear wheels from spinning if you give it too much throttle. DSC will selectively adjust throttle and brakes to keep you from losing directional control.

DSC is an option, but I think is standard on some of the higher packages. It's part of the sport package on my '06.

Seems to me that if you're going to race, traction control is a good thing to have. If it did not enhance performance, why else would so many sanctioning bodies try to ban it?

Race T/C and street T/C are two different things.
Street T/C is an power on/off deal that will help you get going.
Race T/C is a much more variable system that can actually be set to control drift angles.

It makes your insurance rate go down, so TCS/DSC seems like a good idea to me.

Learn to drive without it... What do you expect the rest of us w/o traction control and high power cars to do?

Then you need to learn how to drive.

My first car was a RWD 1976 chevy vega, learned to drive in Maine winters. I used my 8 all winter last year with no traction control or DSC (base '05 MT). I did have decent snow tires, Wintersport M3's. All it takes is a little finesse when stopped on hills and a good sense of the road once moving. If the DSC is saving you over and over again, you don't know what you are doing.

My first car was a 1958 Alfa Romeo, with bald tires, in upstate New York. Not quite Maine, but wintry enough. My only big moment was when I learned you can't go 55 mph on hard packed snow. (Well, you can, but the outcome is not good.) DSC would not have helped.

DSC, like ABS and life insurance, is good to have for those times when you screw up. Not a guardian angel, nor a daily assistant.

I always thought the Traction control was on every 8 and you can buy the option to turn it on or off. because when I test drove one before I bought mine it didnt have the option and when I lost traction it cut throttle like traction control should do.
